Hello, all. I'm moving to Spain in a few months and would like to take my Yeti MTe over with me. I'm not planning to ship it with the battery (too much trouble), but I am wondering if I'll run into trouble with the discrepancy in max speed allowed in US vs EU. Should I restrict the motor before I go, or am I overthinking this? Thanks for any advice.

Hi @Nutter, I lived in Spain for many years. It’s extremely unlikely that you’ll be checked, but of course there are limits, the same as for all pedelecs in the EU. In a nutshell: a maximum of 25 km/h and 250 W for pedal assistance. Unless you have an accident, in which case the violation could complicate things.

That said, frankly, I think that anyone coming to another country should understand that these are the rules there, and they need to be respected, regardless of where they come from, and out of respect for the hosting country and his people.

BTW, welcome to Europe, and in particular to Spain, a country I really love, not for everything, but at least for some critical aspects of life. I am sure you will appreciate it.

Hi, Pagheca. I really appreciate your thoughtful reply. I will take it to a dealer in Madrid once I’m there to get the region changed. It sounds like that’s the process for putting the restriction in place on TQ motors. Not sure if I could do it myself with the TQ software or not.

In any case, thanks for the welcome. It was time to leave the US and find something new, for many reasons. I hope we’re making a good choice, but we’re looking forward to it. We’ll be in the Sierra de Madrid area if you ever want to connect.
