What about maintenance your bike. Do you send it in the bike guard to the Canyon service center? Or do you visit your local bike shop and let them do the yearly or half yearly service/maintenance?

I bought a bike repair stand and a few tools. So basics can be done in-house, like cleaning, adjustments, changing the chain, repairing tires, changing brake pads, filling sealant, etc. Shock maintenance though should be left to a special shop, just got 50 h shock maintenance done in a FOX certified shop.

most you can do yourself. the first time you have to buy the tools, which will probably cost a few quid but less than having a shop do it. after that it's free.

then you get to know your bike better, you build the bike you want, you know it's done properly, you don't have to schlep about in your precious time taking and collecting your bike (then going back when it's not done properly), standing in queues while the staff talk to someone else, the parking ticket is running, you have to get back to work etc etc.

as @Agu says there are some jobs you need a specialist for, but not many.

you can probably tell my experience with bike shops is largely poor and I do a lot myself nowadays. forced into it basically.

I doubt you will find anyone who sends their bike back to Canyon for regular servicing - warranty work yes, but by the time you have factored in shipping the costs would be huge compared to using your LBS. Get your own tools and learn the skills from YouTube or support your local shop, both are better options.
