It will be reversed or revised, probably sooner rather than later. Class 1-Class 3 eMTBs will eventually be excluded.

Bound to happen... power POWAH!

illegal e-mopeds/motorcycles incidents (user conflicts and accidents) are on the rise and the general public treats and associates them with e-bikes. Plus younger and younger folks are using them and I remember being that age. I'd be hooning around too if I had a 30+ MPH "bicycle" that didn't need liscence/reg/insurnace.

Heavy is the hand of the law.

This legislation bans mail order sales of e-bikes in NJ for at least one year. People are actually going to have to step into a LBS lol.

Not surprising considering it’s one of the worst states for heavy handed control of its residents. I have relatives that live there. Every time I visit I’m thankful I don’t live there. My biggest fear is that this chase for more power and Class 1 bikes that can be turned to Class 3 (that would be you Specialized and DJI) will lead to more of this in other states. If the companies making these bikes actually cared, they could solve the problem very easily. Simply sell any of the bikes/motors in the US without the ability to access the Class 3 mode. I know it is not an issue in other countries, but it will lead to trail closures and more idiotic legislation like New Jersey here in the US. 85nm Class 1 bikes are more than enough. As a 70 year old riding with my brother who is late 60’s it is all the power needed. We do big rides of 30-40 miles with 4-5k of climbing and ride almost exclusively in Eco or Trail.
