Currently, both bikes are close in price. I want to stay with an alloy since I'm a larger rider. Which of those two would you choose and why? I'm kind of leaning for the 4 and just upgrade shocks, forks and other bits later. But the 3 comp does come with better parts out the box but less power with a belt driven motor.

I would pick the 4, purely because of the motor. Everyone I ride with who has the previous gen motor has had to have it replaced under warranty. Plus you get a bigger battery, more power & torque with the newer model. The parts are fine and you can just upgrade them as needed.

The gen 4 has only been out for 2 and a bit months though so we have no idea on the long term reliability of the motor. The battery disconnect issue is a bit worrying also.

I just bought new Gen3 alloy, 4500€. Comp would have only 1000€ more expensive but since I bought it as secondary bike I didn't wan't to spend more. But either way, I think those gen3 are really bargains now, you get 700wh battery, mastermind, swat-tool, fully adjustable geo (which really doesn't need any, but you can tinker with it if you want :D )As only bike, gen3 comp would be solid choice! But if you are bigger rider, then more power is always good so with gen4 you probably get that... Ps. I had gen2 Alloy comp before so I know all the problems, but Specialized have solid support so I'm not worried with new bike. And generally with ebikes, I recommend to buy it from LBS to get support.

About same price? Tough call. Maybe the gen3 with the nicer parts - and maybe upgrade at the end of 2 year warranty period. Another thought is ride and compare the handling and fit of each Gen to see if that makes a difference for you.

I'm currently 260lbs (I guess 118kg according to google). My problem is that my local specialized shop does not have the bikes to do a side by side especially since the gen 3 has been replaced.

At 260 lbs, check with Specialized and/or your dealer about weight limits for the various Levos you are looking at -

I did ask about it as the carbon has a 275 weight limit while the alloy is 300. They said that is just rider weight because I figured it would be rider plus bike weight. While, ideally, I expect to drop weight and not go up, I figure I'm safer all around on an alloy especially for jumping etc

Specialized alloy frames ha ha ha I’ve seen 3 frames break now and they wouldn’t warranty this one because at the time they were riding the bike and knew how it broke even I don’t know how I done it thanks Specialized I only bought 3 new e-bikes of you in the past

I got the Specialized Turbo Levo 3 Comp in Cobalt blue for euro 5k, new in the box, size S6, the LBS did Retul fit and checked with me outside during test drive if I should get the S6 or S5, I am 191cm and 105kg. The Gen 4 non Comp is on sale for euro 5499,-, the S6 of the Gen 4 was only available in Orange. The 2.2 is solid according to the LBS , I can get a revision for around euro 250,-. My rides on the trail usually are around 2 hours doing 30km with 600 ascending meters, that is on my Cannondale F3 29 from 2012. Even with the motor turned off the Gen 3 was super and fast. Also the Fox and SRAM materials did it for me. Did not want to spend an additional 1500 euro for a Gen 4 Comp version.
