Hi Col.
Well worth a visit with every type of trail available in its 120 mile trail network ( when everything is open)...HOWEVER..
Coming down from the north you would have to approach Kielder from Bonchester Bridge ..turning off the A68 shortly after Jedburgh ...this due to the fact that one of bridges over the River Tyne is currently closed due to structural work and is about 3 weeks away from re-opening ..
While there are two roads acting as " diversions " if you were heading South afterwards ..these are on very narrow ( singletrack) roads with no " passing places " ..so its onto a rough verge if you encounter something coming towards you ..
There have been numerous accidents & near misses so far ..personally I havent ventured that way since the closure ..nor will I until its re-opened ..
In short ..yes its well worth a visit ..just not right now 😉
Edit : If you are heading south on the A68 ..Hamsterley Forest in Co.Durham is an excellent alternative ..
Would have joined you but have other commitments this weekend
