I read all of these reports, but I have never experienced this, and I run this bike hard.
You?
Did this phenomenon occur for you out of the box, or after some time?
(I have around 200 hours on the bike)
TIA!

eBikes don't have engine

eBikes have motor

Lastly, this topic has been discussed a thousand of times. Open any of the threads, and you'll have a ton of responses.

(do you know you can create polls on this forum?)

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure what “rattling noise” actually refers to. English isn’t my first language, and after watching a few videos online about “e-bikes motors rattling noise” it seems to be a continuous sound that can vary quite a lot in intensity and tone from one bike to another.

In any case, my motor does seem to make some noise, and it feels like it’s starting to get louder.

Quite annoying.

It has been discussed to death, but was there any remedy like anti-kickback devices? I ordered a Rimpact to try out.

It feels like my M1 is getting worse, but might have some cable rattle as well, will check that also.
Given that Avinox has given reduced noise as one of the features of the M2S I also think we can confirm that this is indeed an issue.

My PL Carbon from November has no rattle and is generally very quiet. I think they fixed the rattle sometime in 2025 and the newer bikes do not rattle.

My 2026 Unno Mith with an M1 doesn't rattle, one of if not the quietist bike i've ever owned including acoustic bikes

I don't have rattle but the motor does make noise but no more that my previous Bocsh Gen4.

Amflow, zero motor rattle.

Gen4 Bosch on the other hand 🤬
Well documented here about my extreme Gen4 motor rattle. It seems to vary across the motors, basically pot luck if you got a rattly motor or not.

I have read reports that the M2 motor (which is a revamp of the old m1) is pretty darn rattlely, but that the M2S is not at all. My gen 5 Bosch cx is rattle free.

Do you mind sharing those reports? Not that I don’t believe it, I just have only seen one person on here mention that. Nothing else I’ve seen has said the regular m2 is rattly. All say completely quiet and some of those reviews rode multiple bikes with regular m2 and M2s.

when it first came out there were like 8 million YouTube videos on the Avinox motors in various bikes. Within those videos there's more than several of the writers and hosts talking about the noise difference between M2 S and M2 I cannot remember any specifically just go watch a few videos and see what people say. The M2 is just the previous motor with some extra bits added from what I read, and the M2 S is the all new motor. So it would stand to reason that the M2 would rattle because the previous generation motor rattle pretty badly.

I still have mostly only seen reports/reviews that m2 and M2s are silent. My m1 was silent, but i Know some people had issues. Both m2 and M2s made changes to help eliminate rattle. I’ve only seen now 2 people (both on this forum) mention rattle with m2. That’s out of a lot of reviews and bikes out there with m2/s now

That’s why I’m asking you to provide the reports you’re saying you’ve been seeing because I simply can’t find them and have only seen the opposite. Not saying they don’t exist, I would just like to see if it’s true.

You may be mistaking for motor noise under power? I have seen a review mention the motor noise is a little louder on m2. That’s not rattle. That’s the whine from the motor under power.

YouTube Video Reviews
  • Avinox Just Changed eBikes Forever: This review highlights that the new M2S motor specifically aims to eliminate the "rattle and clunk noises" that were present in the original DJI motor by using refined internal components.
  • 130Nm & Silent?! Avinox M2S Full Breakdown and Hillclimb: The reviewer performs a "rattle test" on rough terrain. They note that while the original motor had a known rattling issue (often managed with a tight, high-drag oil-filled seal), the M2S is significantly quieter during active use, though some trail noise persists.
  • Avinox M2S First Ride - 1500w Power, 150Nm and quieter!: This technical breakdown compares the M1 to the M2S, noting that while the M2S is physically very similar, it features updated internals designed for quieter operation.
  • The Motor That Broke The Internet | DJI Avinox M2S Vs M1: Discusses the transition to helical gears in the M2S, which were implemented specifically to provide a smoother, quieter ride and handle the increased torque without the mechanical clatter of previous versions. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Community and Expert Observations
  • eMTB Forums - MS2 vs M2 Rattle: Users and testers discuss how the base M2 motor may still exhibit a "dreaded rattle" on chunky descents, whereas the M2S features an additional spring-loaded mesh gear setup that effectively "banishes" these noises.
  • Pinkbike Tech Review: Reviewer Seb Stott noted that while he did not personally experience "clacking" or "knocking" from the M2S gears on descents, the noise level is heavily dependent on the terrain and bike frame integration.
  • User Reports (Facebook/Forums): Some early adopters of bikes equipped with these motors (like the Amflow PL) have compared the noise to "a filing cabinet full of spanners" or a "baby bird crying" when under high load. Many users recommend disabling the "Freehub Pre-Engagement" in the advanced settings to reduce these mechanical clunks. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Only rattling I hear is from the pads of or cable in the top tube now and again but the pads stop when there’s some heat in them and the cable rattle is only on rock gardens or very rough terrain

forbidden druid core with avinox M1, bought 3/2026, noticable rattle on chunky descents, since day 1

Anyway to make a thread with poll here?
Had mine for about 1000 miles. No rattles at all.

Had my bike over 1 year, either mine is rattle free or I don't notice.

Ridden everything from Bike Park Wales to Lake District to fireroad XC mincing.
