After 10 or so years of riding analog, including two years of racing cross country, I've come to the dark side of E-biking after buying a good friends wife's 2021 Turbo Levo comp. I'm only four rides/6 hours into getting to know her, and totally appreciating what all the buzz is about E bikes! I will admit that over the last several years, while out on the trail, I did sneer a bit at the E bikers and considered them less skilled and less fit.... But now I've come to the dark side ;)

A little background for perspective. My friend and I go back 20 years while having raced hare scrambles together and had been riding and racing dirt bikes for most of our lives. But life comes around, and my mid sixties body is feeling like it's been off roaded quite a bit, doesn't heal quite as quickly. We'd both decided to put down the ICE and embrace off road cycling. I, being older, made the MTB decision first. He followed shortly after, but quickly got the E bike bug- and now I know why! Pretty much the same bike handling skills, same dopamine rewards, much much easier to find riding venues (I live 1 minutes from Santos, Florida), and far less speed and chance for serious/life changing injury.

So I'm hooked already and here. I will say that going from a 25# FS weight weenie CC bike to 50# E bike is taking some getting used to, but I'll manage- I think of the Levo as just a super light and quiet KTM 250. I'll likely be starting some threads focusing on keeping this older Levo going- until it's upgrade time!
Thanks for having me and looking forward to the ride :)

including two years of racing cross country,

Oh, no!
Those cross country and gravel bike riders are awfully grumpy when I pass them on my way to the expert-level downhill trails. I think their tight shorts create excessive scrotal compression and puts them in a bad mood. I'm glad you've seen the light, gotten yourself an eMTB, and are enjoying the freedom of extended range and baggy shorts.

My older brother (75) got a stroke and became unable to ride, so I came in the possession of his Conway 227 HT (from 2017?)
I had no plans to go electric in the next few years being in good shape at 66 and having a Cube stereo 120 FS I love, but a few rides turned me over and now I'm on the lookout for a Cube Hybrid One22/44 because the hardtail on the Conway feels pretty hard compared to the Cube!
Plusses for me for eMTB are the extra range and better body temp control (less sweating when it's cold outside)!
I will certainly keep riding the bio-bike for shorter rides when it's nice weather!
