oups... so they've made this on purpose? i mean, they added a plastic cover to make that battery mount look better and then they left such a big gap?
Not bashing on Vitus or that bike it's just i don't understand it....

No neither do I. I might be wrong and it might be a fault but I can't see anyway of losing the battery into the cover more snuggly....hmmmm

This pic is from the Vitus website, the gap seems to be designed that way... or does it look smaller here?

A mate has that exact bike and it has that gap on his. Doesn't seem to cause any problem.

That's good to know. Cheers. Has your mate had any issues it would be good to know about in advance?
Personally I would take off that cover and have a look at what is under there and how well it is all sealed. Even then I might be tempted to make a wedge of foam from a pool noodle or similar to stop any major dirt ingress from above that would not be able to drain away.

He hasn't had it long so it hasn't done any big rides yet. He's upgraded a few things but is happy with the build of the frame etc. I'll let you know if anything comes up. ?
Having this gap is correct - the battery bracket/mount is adjustable to ensure the battery fits snug in the mounts. Hence why you will see different gaps in different photos. From time to time you may need to readjust the mount if the battery develops some play.
The top and bottom battery mounts are Shimano parts, and common across most bikes using an external Shimano battery.
Dirt may get in there, but AFAIK there is nothing to get damage in there, no exposed connections etc.

I thought the same...... just got a Sentier 20” and I have the same gap. My mate has also just bought one 17” and the gap is a tad smaller,
So the answer (right or wrong) is they are all like that !
Hmm, have you touched that hex motor bolt? Seems it needs to be tightened a lot!

See what you mean!.... looks like a Torx fitting, gonna check mine tomorrow..... good spot by the way 
Also with the mount it has play in it, this is designed to allow you to seat the battery correctly in the mount. This means you can rock the mount from side to side, so ipso facto one side will always have a bigger gap - see below on my sommett
