@ Insert in posts

How do you do the @members name insert in replies that comes up in a little box. Not something iv'e seen before.
I tried just putting @and then the persons user name but it didn't seem to work.
Sorry for the dumb question, getting to the age where technology is leaving me behind.

Type "@" and then start the username with no space and a dropdown should appear.
