If the Bosch Gen5 CX-R motor is hardwired to a SRAM Transmission, is there smart shift technology enabled? Like auto coast, and soft shift, etc.?

Hey there, just ordered a new frame with a Gen5 CXR motor and got it hardwired to the motor.

My question is what functionality is gained with this hardwired set up besides one less battery to charge?

Does it coast upshift, soft shift, take up slack, or do any other fancy tricks?

Thanks!

From what I understand currently Bosch only offer smart e-shift support on TRP gear. That is about to change soon (Autumn?) with a new update which will add most of the Shimano Di2 derailleurs but NOT as far as I can tell SRAM so if it is not too late it might be worth switching your order to Shimano. The link below has more info from Bosch.

My Axs is hard wired and there is nothing extra apart from the no charging unfortunately.
Hopefully in the future🤞

Not just TRP, but also Rohloff and 3X3 NINE internal gear hubs (which I plan to take advantage of). The cool new TRP trigger shifter will work with all the currently supported setups.

I maybe wrong but from the link I posted I do not believe the Rohloff and 3x3 Nine hub gears have the full Bosch smart E-shift functions also neither seem to be aimed or would be suitable for an EMTB, unlike the TRP and as annouced (with the next update) for the Di2 Shimano derailleurs!

Auto-downshift and Rollshift (which is a bit silly to list here, because shifting without pedalling is an inherent feature of IGHs) are supported, which is really all you need for EMTB. M+ isn't supported but is a strange mode where the bike shifts automatically while coasting but not while pedalling. Reviewers really aren't keen on auto shifting on trails with the current crop of motors, including SRAM and Shimano, as they do a lame job of anticipating shiftings in varied conditions.

Ironically, auto shifting is more suited for city/urban in the space where IGHs more reside. Seems it would be simple firmware upgrade in the motor to support this at some point.

At some point I can see on-board AI coming into play with extra sensors(cameras, even) for effective autoshifting, but that is a ways off.

Well, I have a Bosch CXR frame on order (Antidote) and frankly I think they are sick and tired of all of my questions but in the order, I had included the Transmission and the power cable but frankly I don't want it anymore if it can't at least do the coast shifting. I'd rather just run my reliable 11 speeds and save 300 grams.

Trying to get the Transmission removed from the order.

I have found the Shimano derailleur for EMTP for sale but there is no description on if they come with a cable and I have not been able to find the cable we need for the connection to the derailleur to the Bosch motor even exists.

If its one of the latest e.g. Shimano XT Ddi2 RD-M8260 type derailleurs then you would need an EW-PS300 cable to connect to the Bosch smart system, see link below for more info.

Shimano EW-PS300 connection cable for BOSCH Smart System & DI2 rear derailleur

Cool thanks.
Ive done 2 rides on my M8260 derailleur and I must say, im very impressed with its shifting performance and timing. The auto coast shift is especially impressive. The first of the 2 rides was a typical 40 mile trail loop and it just worked - never once did I feel the need to gear change manually. The second ride was more enduro and I have to say, the system seemed to learn my riding habits - it just got better, the more I rode it. The coast shift worked especially well when doing tech type climbs at a descent speed - suddenly having to coast and slow for hairpin or feature and the system would always put me in the right gear for the feature. Unfortunately weather has been cap lately, so gone back to gravel for the mo. There was a DI2 firmware update a couple of days ago, but no mention of what it has done.

Now why did you have to go and give a review on how great this upgrade is since I just convinced myself I don't need to do this upgrade for riding next year. (Sarc). Thanks for the info, there is not much I could find out there with the M8260/Bosch combo. Now I know what I want for my birthday next year. I does suck that the cable to make this combo work is hard to find. Ebike24 just had them in stock now It's over nine weeks for it to be back in stock.

I installed the XT di2 to my Cannondale Moterra Neo. Had to take it to the dealer to have the HPP (high power port) turned on. Works great, going to be fun playing with all the options.
