Since yesterday I have the Garmin edge 830 pack but I still have not been able to go out and try it if I could try to synchronize with my ebike with Shimano E8000 and the only information I could read on the Garmin is the% of the battery of the ebike.
My idea was to have all the information in the garmin as on the screen that brings the ebike and thus remove the screen and only leave the Garmin.
Is it necessary to buy Shimano EW-EN100 to use with E8000? to be able to have all information such as cadence, help mode, help level, etc ...

I think with E8000, yes you would need to use a EW-EN100 (but then you can't use a E8000 display as well ...). Or you could use a E7000 display. At least that's the case with the Edge 1030 currently.

Is the 830 one of the new devices? I assume that will work the same as the 1030, but I don't know for sure.

If it is the new Garmin device the edge 830 and with some improvements. Then I will have to buy the EW-EN100 and remove the E8000 screen.

I think this is your post on the Garmin forums: I can not synchronize Garmin Edge 830 with Shimano E8000 - Edge 830 - Cycling - Garmin Forums

And someone has now replied saying E8000 and Edge 830 should work ok.

There's also a new beta firmware for the 1030 which says: Added support for Shimano STEPS 2.1. So I'm wondering if that STEPS 2.1 refers to the E8000 display wireless connectivity format. And maybe the Edge 830, being newer than the 1030, already includes that support?

Which doesn't explain why you can only see battery % and not the assist mode ...

If I asked that question in the Garmin forum, too. But he does not explain how he manages to make it work ... I have tried many ways and I only get to see the% of the battery as it happened with the old Garmin. I have tried to pair E8000 and Garmin edge 830 even I have updated it and nothing for me it is impossible to see more information on the ebike. I know more people who are with the same problem as me ... Please if someone manages to make it work that says the steps to follow. Thank you

It should work with the stock e8000 setup, so it may be a software update issue

No I haven't got one, but I have seen it on the peoples bikes working

Just re reading you original post, if you want to get rid of the original Shimano screen and only use the Garmin, then you need to get the EW-EN100, as if you remove the Shimano E8000 screen then you loos the control/connectivity

It sounds like it might be a bug with the 830 software - if you have E8000 with Di2, then it only shows the Di2. Whereas for most E8000 without Di2 then it shows the E8000 as it should?

I came across a video recently which shows how non-standard and funky Shimano have got when programming their whole Di2 system:
It must make it a pain for other developers like Garmin to communicate with Di2 devices ...

The E8000 screen does NOT work with the Garmin computers. Even on the Garmin thread you started the guy who has it working uses an E70000 screen. You can use either an E7000 screen , E6100 screen OR an EW-EN100. But not the E8000 screen. The E8000 motor is fine. The E8000 display is not.

Also, if you don't have Di2 it's dead simple to change to the EV-EW100. Just unplug from the 8000 controller and plug in the EW-EN100. It's literally 15 seconds. You could even leave the 8000 display on and switch back and forward at will.

In the end I removed my 8000 display completely. I thought the 1030 might be too big but it doesn't bother me. Tempted to get the new 530 for the smaller screen though.

The SC-E8000 display does not transmit the STEPS wireless profile and only an older version of the Di2 profile and is not software-upgradeable according to my contacts within Garmin. That’s why the hardware upgrade EW-EN100 is needed.

That’s also true if you use Shimano’s own e-Tube Ride smartphone app with that particular SC-E8000 display.

Using the SC-8000 display.
Is there anyway to get the Ebike battery % to display on a Garmin 1030 or the Shimano Ride app?

Fiambre reported previously that battery percentage was the only thing that would display on the Edge 830 which is very similar to the Edge 1030.

By the way, Edge 1030 firmware 7.5 fixes a gear selection display issue where the gear selection wouldn’t display if on a mountain bike because the absence of a front derailleur wasn’t handled correctly.

So I expect that you would be able to pair the display as a ‘sensor’ with your Edge 1030 and add a battery percentage field but don’t know for sure - it would be added with the same procedure you use with a heart rate monitor or cadence sensor.

Ok I will try it

Thanks
