Anybody had this battery drops straight to 0% from 12% hpr60 motor and 580wh battery. It used to restrict power from 10% which was always enough to get back to the van, last two rides its dropping straight to 0% from 12ish% and it feels like the motor is not disengageing as well as peddling is like im going through sludge, usually the hpr60 is easy to pedal with the motor off. No errors with the dongle or onscreen.

Hi. Have you been fully charging your battery to 100% between rides? I had the same situation as you (but with the HPR50) where it dropped from about 10% to zero almost immediately.

I had been only charging my main battery to about 80% between rides, thinking this would help with battery life longevity (my speculation as per mobile phone charging). But when I explained the 10 to zero immediate drop to my Trek store technician he said they recommend charging to 100%. So that's what I reverted back to.

It also happened on the very first ride on my bike - I read that the battery needed a few full charge and drain cycles to get it's Memory of levels sorted (?). And then it happened again when I was doing the 80% charge thing. So it isn't much of a good statistic to work to... but seems to have been a factor for my bike.

I normally avoid charging to 100% unless I need it, so as to extend battery life. But yes a battery needs a 100% charge every few weeks so that the BMS can balance the cells. But no need to go to 100% every charge.

I get leaving a battery at 50-80% charge when not in use or when infrequently used. However given the bms is only activated after charging to 100% it seems to me that charging to less than that on a regularly used battery is likely to cause problems that might result in it having to be replaced long before any benefits of an 80% charge regime were acheived.

That could be a problem if you never allowed your BMS to balance the cells. But the cell drift is gradual in a healthy battery and not an issue if the battery is balanced every few weeks or so by fully charging to 100%.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's also true that it's not the charging to 100% per se that impacts battery longevity, but the time spent sitting at 100%. So if you always use your bike within a day or two of charging it to 100% I doubt if there would be any benefit to only charging it to 80-90%.

The Tq app offers the option to charge the battery normally or not to use it for a period of time, so that it is charged to 70% (trickle charging).

hi, so i have the hpr50 on my Trek EXE9.5 and mine did that but only on last 5%, I got in touch with TQ and explained and what they told me was to allow the battery to drop to 0% because it allows the battery management system to acknowledge lt, ive done this numerous times now and not had the issue until colder weather when it drops everytime I switch on, when weather picks up its back to normal, I do all my own services on it and for 2 years I've only lost 3% of full battery life, so I hope this helps

Jeff kendall-Weed was reviewing the Norco with new TQ motor & had a very similar issue. I think the fix was a battery swap or firmware update.
