I have a Bosch Gen 5 motor and a Kiox 400c display. I have the Bosch Flow app on my phone.
How do I alter the over run settings?

Or is that behind a paywall?
What else is behind the paywall and is it worth having?

Extended Boost is the Bosch name for overrun and you can adjust it by changing each Custom Riding Mode in the Flow App as desired.

0 is off, 10 is maximum.

You don’t need Flow+ for that, it seems to add a few things like the ability to lock the bikes battery, but I’ve not tried it and don’t see a need for it.

Yesterday's firmware update has added that. It's called extended boost and hides in newly added 'advanced' tab of each riding mode. Bosch does staggered releases so it may take up to 10 days for the updated Flow app to reach your phone.

I thought it came in with Performance Upgrade 2.0 back in May?

I didn’t have a CX5 back then though, but it was on my new bike weekend just gone.

Extended Boost has been available on my Bosch SX for a while, it just wasn’t user adjustable.

Adjustability for Extended Boost came in the May update.

if I am not mistaken, it was announced in May, but released yesterday along with the chain tensioner feature

Ah yes, that could be it, I noticed the Extended Boost boxes in the Flow App under the Custom Modes section, but must admit I didn’t click on them to see if I could adjust anything. 😂👍

I have an older (pre-smart) model gen 4 Bosch motor which doesn't have overrun, so I have no personal experience of it. However, I am often faced with rocky step-up features where overrun would be really useful.

But what I don't understand is why the amount of overrun is either determined by setting a motor parameter in an app, or by the amount of pedal kick applied by the rider. Surely the amount of overrun the rider wants is determined by the nature, size, and duration of the obstacle/feature that they want to clear without pedalling? Certainly the ability to vary the amount of overrun with the "pedal-kick" method is better than just having it predefined in the motor settings. But if the rider misjudges the amount of pedal kick needed to clear the feature they will either stall on it or get shot off it. Moreover, if the rider inadvertently "kicks" on the pedals while riding around an obstacle or in a corner, they risk having the bike shoot forward unexpectedly by up to 2m and potentially causing an "incident"! (c.f. Specialized law suit!)

Maybe I've got the above all wrong and it works fine in practice. But what I would personally prefer is a button added to the handlebar controller that I could press when I wanted some overrun - much like the Avinox "boost" button - and hold down for as long as I needed it (albeit with the 2m max distance limit if regulations require it). Surely pressing and holding a button would give a much more precise and predictable dose of overrun than a pedal-kick whose sensitivity was previously set in an app?

I stand to be corrected! :)

Go to this screen. Max out the Extended Boost, and give it some right welly.
