Spanish hello, as I just bought a Megamo Reason, my first ebike. First impressions, hilariously fast in any mode other than eco and it weighs a ton compared to my human powered FS bike which is around 10kg.

Because of the weight I am struggling to get it out of the car boot. Any tips, other than going to a gym?

I don't have a towbar, nor want one, so hatch mounted would be my only option? Looked at the Thule Outway but although it has a 30kg limit it states the maximum bike weight as no more than 15kg. Also says it won't fit my car, even though I can't see why it wouldn't :rolleyes:

Might be easier just to remove both wheels? I can fit the bike in the car with the rear wheel still in place but I'm guessing that an emtb wheel probably weighs 2-3kg? My issue is that the bars drop down between the front and rear seats and my weak upper body can't lift them out and hoik the bike rearwards at the same time! :ROFLMAO:

Storing a bike rack/carrier in the bike cave or garage can be a pita, which is why I now use the Thule Easy Fold. I believe they’re now available to hold up to three bikes. Mine easily holds 2 EMTB bikes and folds up to the size of luggage when not needed.

My neighbour must stuff his EMTB in his boot/trunk because he has a sports car with no clearance for a 2” receiver. However, my nephew had a 2” receiver installed on his Miata and carries 2 MTB’s.

As long as a 2” receiver can be bolted to the frame of a vehicle, it’s usually sufficient to carry 2 EMTB’s. I’ve installed 2” receivers on our Venza, RAV4, and a heavier model for my Chevy Sierra 1 ton truck. There are retail outlets that can provide and install 2” receivers for most vehicles …but they can be expensive.

There are 2” blank receivers available, which can be mounted to a wall for storage of your full size bike rack.

An old shape Audi RS Q3. This means it has a roof spoiler and a fake diffuser, which needs to be removed to fit a tow hook.

Starting to think my own idea of removing both wheels may be the best option. Bike will be a little lighter and also shorter which will stop the bar hooking over the seat. Hopefully!

I used to transport my bikes that way, too. I just had to remove the front wheel so they would fit in the trunk. But that was a Seat Leon station wagon.

I don't know what a receiver is. Is that the square tube where a hook would go?
Oh sorry, I call it a 2” receiver. Basically it’s the hitch assembly with a 2” square steel female tube …aka 2” hitch receiver.

My grandson has a Fiesta, even smaller than your Audi Q3!
He folds down the rear seat and then removes both wheels and lifts the bike straight into the car. He is helped by a well in the boot that means he does not have to remove the pedals.

Putting the bike in the car means that is it is safe, unlke all the other options. But it severely restricts what else you can fit in there. For you and your partner to go on hols along with your bikes will require some creative packing.

Roof racks can work, but weight is a restriction, plus the security problem. Cheap though. You may not be strong enough or tall enough to do this by yourself.

Tow bar (one with a ball, not a "receiver" like others I have seen) and rack is the route I went down. Can be expensive, depending upon options. Easy to add and remove the bikes. Weight limits are higher. No impact upon internal storage. You do not need to get an Audi tow bar fitted. They are also very expensive. A few years ago, I was quoted an unbelieveable £2400 for an A5, (even the salesman blushed). I had it done for £700 by a reputable specialist towbar company. If you are a motor electrician or have a knowledgeable friend, much cheaper. Bike racks can be almost whatever you want to pay depending upon your needs, from £200 - £650. A few years ago, I paid £420 for a tilting rack that could take two emtbs. In addition to be able to take the extra weight, you need the tyre straps to be long enough and the rails to be wide enough to take the big tyres. Let Mr Google be your friend.

I might also add, if you’re placing your bike in the boot/trunk, to insert the piston calliper retainer in case the brake levers are accidentally activated. You don’t want those calliper pistons to move or pop out.

I think I do have an old Halfords one in my garage still, but it got loaned out once and came back with several parts missing, so I'm not sure it's still usable. Or up to the job of holding a 21 kg bike. The weight of straps pulling down on the spoiler is what worries me slightly...
