Hello everyone from Northern Arizona,

I’m an avid prospector and primarily use metal detectors. I live in gold country with plenty of trails on BLM land, so having a capable bike to get around while detecting is a big priority.

Right now I have a couple of budget hub-drive bikes that I use as daily commuters, but I’m in the process of building a mid-drive full-suspension eMTB for use out on the claims.

I already have a complete 68–73mm BBS02B kit, and I’m currently trying to decide on a solid frame to build around it.

My main focus isn’t top speed, but rather reliability and the ability to handle rough terrain comfortably. I’ll be doing a lot of reading and checking out different builds to narrow down what will work best for my needs.

Looking forward to learning from everyone here.

Welcome from Surprise!

I lived in Avondale for 3 years. Lots of moto all over (Prescott, Payson, Boulders rec area, Flagstaff, ACP) I loved desert sunsets at the top of a mountain, then riding back down at dusk. The desert changes color at dusk.

Following to see what you build.

Oh most definitely. I spent about a year doing the vanlife thing in a few of those areas. Prescott is probably one of my favorite spots—great trails and good gold. Honestly, I was mainly there for the gold haha.

I do have a 2010 Trek Fuel EX 8, but the bottom bracket isn’t compatible with my mid-drive but my commuter bike does have a compatible BB, but the battery on it kind of sucks. So I’m thinking I might run the Bafang on that for now until I decide on the full-suspension frame I want to use, I'm currently leaning towards a Kona or Ellsworth frame, they seem to have a few with large front triangle for a battery
