Hi All.
New to the forum, so be gentle😂
So my bike is a Giant Fast Road 2+E, bought in March 23, so still has 1 month warranty.
In April 23 the bikes power failed during a ride. I took it to the dealer and they fitted a new battery. All seemed fine but it wasnt until someone else rode my bike ( they had the same model), that they said its not right. The fault was the bike would switch off if i lowered the assist below the eco (1), i thought thats what it should do and didnt question it, as it was the first electric bike i rode.
So back to the dealers in Aug 24. They gave me it back saying they couldnt find anything wrong with it, and said they updated the software?
Earlier this week it kept shutting off, even with light assistance. Today it seemed to be ok as i was in 52km, and still had 46% and was on a slight incline so set it to eco, and within 100 mt it switched off. It switched on when i tried 10 mins later but immediatly switched off.
I stopped, took the battery out, and it wasnt hot, i felt the motor and it wasnt hot.
The error light was flashing and it was on L4 which in the manual is blank. Any ideas what it could be?

UPDATE,
having had the dealer do another diagnostic chech they have changed the ride control switch. I had done another 11 rides and it failed again.
When i took it back it was out of the warranty date but given it was an existing fault they kindly changed the wiring loom. When i had it back i found i couldnt connect the app to the bike. Took it back to the dealer who although able to connect their laptop to the bike via bluetooth, like me they couldnt connect either an android or apple device to the bike. They suggested to wait for the next software update. Again things were ok for a while now the L4 light came back on. Currently it rides ok having just done 85km, but dreading being away from home and the bike shutting down again.
Emailed Giant 2 weeks ago and had no reply.

I have a 2021 Stance E+2 Bought in Jan 2021.
3 months later it developed a power off issue. Tried shim on the battery connector, controller replacement, and battery.
Giant ended up replacing the bike and battery. They put my existing wheels/bars/set/pedals on it.
It's been rock solid for 4 years now.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Not sure it it help but there is a description for L4 error:

I have a 2021 Giant Trance X E+ Pro 3 (2500kms on) with the same issue. I replaced the Controls but that did not fix the problem. Does the same thing with a brand new battery too. Had it back to the shop where they updated the firmware, cleared out all the logged fault codes and put the factory recommended shim under the battery discharge connector, but that did not fix the issue. Sometimes I can do a hard ride and it will cut out only after some kms and other times just a mild ride around the neighbourhoods and it will do it. Mine just flashes the red light for a split second. Currently back at the shop.
Will be interesting to hear what your shop finds.

Sorry to hear the solution seems hard to find, my Reign E+ recently had a red light causing the bike to malfunction, it was caused by a misaligned speed sensor. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi
The Giant dealer called me to say the fault "couldnt be replicated" so the have updated the software and checked all components. They contacted Giant direct for assistance and in the end narrowed it down to the wiring loom comm's issue or the ride control one. They have changed the controller, and i'll collect it tomorrow.
If it happens again they will change out the loom.
UPDATE
Dealer changed the loom, unfotunately i now cant connect my phone to the bike. Tried on android phone and an apple phone and even an ipad. Took back to the dealer and they couldnt connect to their devices, but did manage to connect to their diagnostic laptop. They suggested to wait for the next phone/ bike software update. Anyway, 11 rides later the bike stuttered going uphill, just a couple of brief off/on lasting less about a second each time. Then the motor stopped completely and the L4 light was back on. Once i switched off the bike and powered it back up, i finished the ride covering another 32km.
Contacted Giant directly but not had a reply in last 2 weeks.

Just got my bike back from the shop in pieces. They found a pin pushed out of a connector, but it's still doing the same thing. They did not seem to know how to progress from here. The bearings are a bit rumbly so they suggested a new motor and loom but that is expensive.

So I have emailed an ebike motor repair shop for a quote to do an overhaul and test the motor. If that tests OK the I will replace the wiring loom, battery discharge connector and the Smart Gateway module. My suspicion is that should fix it.

How is your bike now? Got it fixed?

Well I have given up. I have spent probably the best part of 100 hours working through all the combinations and checked every wire.

Changed the controller, new battery discharge connector, new harness, new Ant module and new battery. Motor was overhauled with new bearings and shop checked and found no signs of water ingress. Bike turned on and all looked fine. After turning off it will not turn on again, just like before. I am an electronics engineer and control systems is my speciality, so it is not that I am new to systems like this. Something inside the motor is not good.

So I will cut my loses and pass it on to someone with more patience to fix it or who would run it as an analogue bike. With the new bearings and without a battery it is pretty light and I don't notice any drag from the motor.

Are you referring to the speed sensor magnet or the sensor that is mounted to the rear triangle? I was having the same issue before and thought I had it resolved by cleaning the battery connector. It was running fine for a bit but I am now having the problem return again.

Well I just could not give up and we had a very wet long weekend. So I pulled all the wiring out and checked every connector, every wire. And I found a pin in a connector had pulled out which caused the system to shut down. Pushed the pin back in the housing and potted it with RTV. Connected every thing up and tested over a number of days and issue is gone. So all electronics on this bike is new except for the speed sensor and motor electronics. I have spent over 100 hours on this bike, a good learning exercise that I do not want to repeat again thank you!
Bike runs fine now and is very nice to ride however I will sell it as it is only a large frame and I am 6ft4.5. It's to small for me so I bought a Whyte E-160 S in XL. A very nice bike with a good suspension and is very flickable however the Trance has a very plush suspension in comparison.

Nicely done sir

And then it had the same issue again. Given up on it.:( Only thing now is to replace the speedsensor or send the motor in to be checked electronically. Frustrating thing is when it does start up the self check in the RideControl app tests everything fine.
But I'm done with it. Bought a new Whyte E-160 S with the Bosch system. Much better support for Bosch systems here in New Zealand.

Congrats on Whyte. Bummer you couldnt get the Trance to work. As for mine, when they replaced the RideController on down tube its fixed and no issues. Tempted to buy an Elite +0 in addition to my existing one. They have at bike shop thats been sitting there for 2 years.
