Rail (750Wh) Gen4 incoming for the wife.

Looks like this is coming in this week for the wife. A mate has a Rail, well, actually a few mates have Rails. With it being the Bosch it was really the only choice for us to get as i like the serviceability of the motor and reliability. It was owned by a mate who hasn't put many miles on it, still under warranty so should be golden for her.
I expect i'll get to use it as well, but it's primary goal is to get the wife out riding which she's never really been into. But as we'll be living in the MTB capital of the south, it makes a lot of sense

I rode my mates at FoD last week for a lap top to bottom, i only put in tour and it honestly was bonkers how fast it went up there, literally nuts !!!! I don't really get the 'more' power.
But that probably explains why i don't plan on using this Rail much or at all if i can help it, i'm still of the belief that human power is the best, despite the effort it takes at times.

We've got multiple Treks so know them well.

They're our 3 main bikes. I think they all share the same headset bearings, my Gen5 has knock-block the others done.
Hubs, we're all on 108 Bontys but we have some Hunt Enduro Wides as well.

That was a bit tongue in cheek but I looked after a mate's Powerfly for a while which burnt through four free hubs in twelve months. Bottom of the range bike but in the end, he protested to Trek & in fairness, they gave him an upgraded wheel.

That is pretty generous after-sales service from Trek IMO!

Also can't see any reason to change our 2022 alloy Rails. To be fair of the original bikes there's only the frame, motor, and 500Wh battery left so with the nice parts on them there's even less point in changing them.

Bike arrived over the weekend. It's nice enough and works well. I've thrown some pedals on there for her so she can give it a try.

I don't have any display etc, i don't need to know range as such currently, but things like the mileage would be useful, or is there a Bluetooth App or something i need to install on phone etc?

Bike has 269km on it... Which is pretty decent... weirdly they'd ridden 17km of them with the battery off

That's a gen 5 not 4. You need the Bosch flow app & optionally the System controller/mini remote where it's blanked off on the top tube.

I assume that's a good thing ? Despite me knowing a lot about MTBs, i know very very little about Ebikes or their details etc.

Just the newer version of the system. Harder to derestrict if that's a consideration, bigger batteries, better engineering (allegedly). The system controller will show modes, battery life etc. without having to get a phone out on a ride, so probably a desirable addition.

OK cool. derestricting isn't happening, so not a worry there. Funnily i never even checked what battery it has... i assume 750.

At the moment it'll be getting used for 5-10 mile trips only at best, so the added controller isn't massively important right now.

I've installed the Flow app and got it working etc

I've got my phone mounted on the handlebars with a Quadlock mag charger which draws power from the battery so your phone doesn't go flat. (cable specific for Bosch)

Yeah…I think I have a love-affair with my 2020 Trek Rail 9.7 (aka Da-Tank). The only thing original on this bike now is the frame and motor. I recently reduced the battery size from 625wh to 500wh and removed the battery lock system. That was a HUGE improvement.

After a few months of research I ordered the Rail 9.7 back in October of 2019. Unexpectedly arrived at the LBS late November 2919. A couple of warranty issues but those were quickly resolved. I’ve upgraded this bike to “death”…it just keeps ticking all the boxes.

Her little sister bike is the Trek Fuel EXE 8…almost identical geometry and ridiculous upgrades also. Even though I got the “green-light” for a new bike …I just can’t …or I don’t want to. But the new TQ 120nm motor has caught my attention.

The Tank is my daily ride though. I have no idea how many kms are on this bike …probably a lot.…I’m afraid to look.

As the wife has not even sat on it yet since it arrived at the weekend, i have no idea if it'll ever move at all. I'm out riding tomorrow but i was planning on using the manual. Some of this will change when we eventually move house... but that keeps getting pushed back.
