I made two mud guards that overlap, one attached to upper linkage and the other on the bottom linkage. Cost me about $5 for all of the material needed and it works great for my needs. It might not be the best solution for muddy condition.

I use a dw link protector from a pivot bike, the 34mm extended one, with the thin strips cut off.
