How has everyone found fox reliability? Leaving aside the famous X2 issues, what are the rest of the range like?

I’m not too impressed right now, the Float X on my Shuttle started leaking at about 500 miles and was warrantied back in April. It started leaking again after another 300 miles and is back with Silverfish again.

I read some comment that go for RockShox for rear shock and Fox front and you have best possible suspension combo and least amount of trouble....but I'm sure there's other opinions too 😀

That thing has been bottomed hard!
No problem on the Fox stuff I have. Proper setup and maintenance will increase service intervals.

That is very ugly

Where is it leaking from Dax? On RS shocks, some seepage onto the shaft is normal. Alarming but normal.

I assume out the air can/damper. It definitely isn’t a normal amount of seepage, was pretty disgusting after another 30 miles.

Maybe give it an air can service & see if it recurs prematurely. Thirty quids worth of seals & lube or thereabouts wouldn't be the end of the world. People do routinely ignore the 50 hour service recommendation but maybe they actually mean it 😅

While it’s under warranty, fox can fix it. I was trying to figure out how many hours use it’s had since the last warranty, it’s about 270 miles, assuming 10mph average that’s only 27hrs. Or is it after every 50hrs of ownership? 😂

Said this before but people would be up in arms if they had to service their car suspension with the same frequency. The big flaw in mtb suspension is how much of the engineering that should be on the inside is on the outside.

Intervals are set by engineers and pencil pushers. Yours may vary. Riding conditions, proper routine maintenance, riding techniques all play a part in shortening or lengthening the amount of time they need to serviced.

Garbage. I like some of their forks though.
Ive always thought their marketing budget exceeds their R&D budget.
Broken 2x cane creek dba, fox x2, fox dpx, cane creek kitsuma coil, superdelux coil.
My reliable shocks have been cane creek db coil, ohlins ttx22 and so far an ext e-storia.

MTB suspension needs to be a bit more sensitive, and adjustable. Most auto shocks that have those characteristics, have to be rebuilt at regular intervals.
Most still don’t though😂
If my kid yelled “dad the car needs its weekly shock service” oh flipping A that’s funny.

My DHX2 started to knock really lound if LSR is set to anything but fully open, it`s 1.5 years old and freshly serviced after it started to squish. No problems with 3x Fox 38 on the other hand.

Fix them when there broke if suspension cant do more than 50 hours its unfit for purpose in my opinion
There broke what?

50 hours is subjective, almost certainly designed to sell service parts & I don't know anyone who sticks to it. What I can say is 50 hours in the desert doesn't have the same deleterious effect as 50 hours in the UK winter. The amount of shit I've cleaned out of shocks & forks after a couple of months wet riding concentrates the mind. What I do is a hybrid approach a few times a year, open them up, clean & lube and replace any seals & o-rings as I see fit before doing a 200 hour service annually.

Can't beat a freshly cleaned & lubed suspension set up, the bike glides like butter but that wears off soon enough.

Just put a service kit in it. I have the same shock and it’s no big deal. I’ve rebuilt plenty of Rox and Fox, and they all need some TLC at some point. A kit is cheap and it’s fun to do the work yourself.

A what now ,Service LOL
Never happens in my world

I just serviced my Fox 38 and Float X at just over 100 hours. I never really paid attention until I got an EMTB which makes it very easy to know where you are at on hours. I live in the desert so my suspension wear will come from sand and dust almost 100% of the time, not rain. It was a total waste of time because they both looked great. Yeah they showed some darker oil and some wear but I could have gone another 100 hours of riding before doing anything.

As far as the oil seepage he showed. I would just do a basic service and get everything super clean before putting it back together. I service two Float X shocks I own and they never leak oil like that. My neighbors Rockshox rear kept leaking oil like that. They shipped him a new one and it leaked too. I took it apart and in my opinion it had way too much oil on the chamber side. I serviced it and applied a normal amount of Rockshox oil and he has not had anymore leaks. Also, avoid harsh bottom outs as well.
