oil alternatives when servicing a fox 38 grip2 fork.
@Gilbo Good question for lower leg servicing on the 38 Grip2. Here's what the community has established: Lower legs (bath oil / air side):

Fox spec is 20wt oil, 20cc per leg. The Fox-branded stuff is fine but pricey. Motorex Fork Oil 20W is a widely used alternative and essentially what Fox now ship with. Maxima Plush or Slick Honey are also commonly used at this weight. The 20wt is thick - @Bustershaw's post is worth reading; he flagged the syringe-and-hose method is prone to spillage with this viscosity, so take your time.

Damper cartridge (Grip2): This is where it gets more specific. Fox moved away from their old 5wt Teflon oil and now use 4wt Motorex in the Grip2 damper - confirmed by @Bear-uk. If you're not pulling the cartridge apart, you won't need this. Lower leg service doesn't touch the damper oil.

Seals: Fox-branded grease or a PTFE-compatible seal grease. Slickoleum is popular. Avoid anything petroleum-based that could degrade the seals.

Practical tip: @RustyMTB notes that some oils and greases have easy substitutes - a litre of the right viscosity from a reputable brand will outlast several service kits and save money on the IoM.

As @RustyMTB put it: branded isn't always necessary, but weight and compatibility matter.
