Would these fit on a Rail? I also seem to remember in the Rail advertising blurb about Trek having Rockshox make their forks with a bigger crown especially for the Rail, would this mean standard forks wouldn't fit?

Yes they will fit or yes standard forks won't fit.
 
42mm on my Trek so ill stick to stock measurements i think, thanks for the heads up though
