Firstly, thanks to all for your suggestions, both serious and humorous.
I was chatting to @johnc about this and he asked a very simple question. "Is there any reason why you can't just fit a new star nut and use all the Hope red stuff you already have?" Tumbleweed moment.................... Scales fell from my eyes.
I knew that my grandson would not be using the storage function provided by the EDC conversion, so why not? I did some measurements and there was indeed no reason why a new star nut could not be fitted. Job done!
