Hi guys

It’s been a while since I last posted anything as I’ve had a bit of a rough time with my mental health and my general health but I’m sort of feeling better and needing some advice on ebike insurance, I moved home late last year and the insurance company I’m with wouldn’t insure my bike for more than £5K so I’m stuck without any insurance, what I’d like to know is, is there anyone else here that has insured an ebike that’s more than 6 years old with a lot of upgrades and managed to get insurance to cover the bike and the upgrades with no problems, if there is, can you tell me which company you’re with please, thanks in advance.

It may depend on your policy level, but it's definitely worth enquiring.
Yep, It took a while, but it would appear that Halifax have two similar but different types of Buildings & Contents Insurance. One type with policy numbers beinning with HAP+9 digits, or another beginning with HBP+9 digits. I was on the HAP type and was restricted to £5k per bike. The HBP type allows me to go very much higher, way beyond what I need. Apparently they are not compatible and I have to apply for a quote for a new policy from scratch. I have a feeling that the new insurance may cost more, but bike insurance is so expensive that it may be worth it.

I mentioned before that I was previously insured with someone else and I was transferred to the Halifax by a broker. The HAP policy I am on may be a hangover from that time.

Interesting! Weirdly enough, I'm on a HAP policy... but my bike is insured for the price on the receipt (£4K) as opposed to the original RRP (£6K).

I am also looking at insurance and had a quote from Bikmo and they require it to be covered when on the bike rack while traveling.

I just ran a quote from eversure from the above recommendation and there's nothing about covering the bike while in transit, which is a bonus.

Has anybody had this stipulation?

thanks ben

Sean,
I'm not from the UK, but I've heard a few mentions of Bikmo Insurance with decent reviews. It sounds like they are flexible with their accessories add ons.
Additionally, I'm in hopes the other issues won't be troublesome for very long. There is nothing like pedaling on two wheels to leave your troubles behind you...even if only for a while.

Stay safe, upright & on two wheels,

zaskarmark

Much appreciated for your response mate, I will add that to my list of possibilities, I have been losing weight and feeling better in myself but I’m still waiting for the procedure to be done on my back, hopefully the weight loss will help to improve it a little, I’ve also been so busy with jobs in our home and trying to get jobs finished in our old home so it can be sold as well, at the moment I feel like I’m wading through treacle, I’m more busy than when I was at work 🤔
You look after yourself too buddy and thank you for the well wishes too, it’s much appreciated 🙏

Back issues are bloody hell, my bike brother! I received a back fusion about 15yrs ago, fixed me right up. Unfortunately, a drunk hit me 3yrs ago, requiring more back surgery to try & repair a disc, the nerve however, cannot be repaired. I can't feel my right leg from the knee down with a 25% muscle loss, hence why I got into emtb bikes.
I am in great hopes your procedure will be a 100% success, allowing you to resume your life fully. 🤙🏼

Bloody hell mate it sounds like you’ve been through hell and back, I wish you well and hope you continue to enjoy biking but don’t get me started with drink drivers 🤬 they’re the lowest of the low in my opinion, with regards to my back the procedure I had first time around gave me 18 months of pain free bliss, they burned away all the nerves in the base of my spine and in the process they managed to burn one of my vertebrae which left me in severe pain for the following two weeks, pain killers did nothing so two weeks of little sleep was the norm, but one day I woke up and all the pain was gone and stayed away for 18 months, I went back to work a few weeks later and I got my life back again but because I was back at work doing a strenuous job of course it came back, I’m now retired so I’m praying that the next time it lasts for years not months, the procedure was agony but I’d go through it in a heartbeat 👍

You & I & my wife share the same opinion of driving drunk. It sounds like you have run the 'bad back gauntlet' with mixed successes.
Stay on that saddle & it will keep you young! 😉

It’s been a absolute nightmare to be honest but I know there’s a lot of people suffering more than I do so I do think I’m lucky, all this pain started with a slip in the snow, I’m keeping everything crossed that they do the same thing they did before but in the meantime I’m keeping myself as busy as I can and I’m losing weight slow but steadily, I’ve lost a stone and a half since Christmas but still a lot of work ahead 😉
