Got this email today, I'm a registered business and sell some ebike related 3d printed stuff on ebay.
BIG change in policy there, can't sell ebikes now unless a business seller

I guess the massive rise in ebike theft's means they've decided to crack down on it. Doubt it will do much though as most of the stolen bikes are on facebook marketplace.

There’s two ways of reading that?
- Only businesses can now sell e-bikes on EBay, ie. No private sales.
- Only businesses which fulfils Ebay’s new policy criteria can sell e-bikes, ie not businesses that don’t fullfill the criteria.

Haha you’re entirely right!

I read it in the first way but it makes more sense the second 😂

Of course the linked policy then doesn’t actually even mention e-bikes so not much clearer

Yes it is happening on 31st Oct 2024.

Typical, I have a Spec Levo Expert on there now!

I was told by eBay this decision is based around safety of consumer... Cheap DIY e-bikes and possible fire risks.
Yet they don't mention e-scooters and I still see private sellers selling them!!

Yeah weird I got this email in July and it seemed to be a mistake but now they’re going ahead with it.

Just as they removed private seller final value fees so looked like being a safer option than Facebook sales again finally and now it’s businesses only 🤦‍♂️

Where is a good place to advertise now? Any bike forums? I know about FB market place and Gumtree.

Thanks.

Pink bike. Here.
Maybe a “Webuyanyebike” style shop will setup, hoover up all the second hand bikes and sell them on eBay.

If just putting mtb for sale and the make, how the he'll would ebay know it's an ebike unless a human monitors every text and pic's
We wouldnt be selling ebikes anyway
Its this cross over that gets genuine PEDELEC riders a bad name as there all getting branded as ebikes
Try MTB as you say as models would be searched for in general anyway.

But also listed as Pedelecs there should be no issue as they should all be UK legal items not ramped up illegal items which is what there trying to clamp down on hence the registered sellers only bit who should be selling legal stuff anyway (y)
