Hi,
I have on my Haibike Trekking 11 the SRAM Eagle GX Derailleur installed together with a Eagle GX shifter. Is there any way to replace the shifter with another one having a gear indicator?
If there is a similar topic, please be so kind and redirect me.

Regards
M.

You might struggle to get a lower spec shifter in 11 speed. the indicator ones were usually 8-9 speed ones?

If this is your first set of shifters that don't have an indicator, I can understand your question. It happened to me the first time I went to 1x. It was a bit disconcerting, but after a few rides I had got used to it and actually removed the indicator from my other bike because: a) I no longer needed it and b) it looked a lot better!

Stick with it! :)

Hi,
no offence taken, I would never even consider you question as such :-) It's just exactly as Steve wrote, I am not used to it and since I mostly ride flats and maximum speed I would like to know how "close" to the hardest gear I am when speeding up.
I was not aware that this is impossible with 12x shifters (putting maybe newbie questions here since I went away from being bike hobby mechanic years ago and only recently I bought my ebike and started again maintain it and modify this and that by myself ;-) )
Anyway, thanks to you all for your replies.

Foolishly I took my GX 12 speed Eagle shifter apart and for the life of me I cannot see how to fit the spring back on the lever side , I have fitted the the little pawl retained by that silly spring wire and the bushing and bearing back together and the plate , but just cannot see how to fit the coiled spring back into the housing , it's driving me mad :)

Any help or guidance would be appreciated

I remember taking mine apart ages ago and having to watch a YouTube video about a dozen times before it went back together again.
I feel your pain and hopefully like me, you won't take it apart again 😁

buy a new one
Before you do that...

The spring is there to tension the gear lever. Although I've never taken one of these apart, I have had Shimano shifters in bits & a mechanical principle is a mechanical principle.

The kinked part of the spring almost certainly hooks over the post in the shifter mechanism per the picture. Place the spring into the plastic housing so as when you place the shift lever on top, the spring buts against the post & it should become clear how it goes back together & the spring will only fit on in one of two orientations so it should be doable for you.

Top tip for spannering bikes, when disassembling stuff for the first time, take pictures so you can see how it goes back together!
