E‑bike charging while travelling: ever been refused or asked to pay?

I've pondered this in the past but wondered if most cafes even have enough space available to take your bike in. My general experience is that they try and fit as many table and chairs in as fire regs allow.

The ones I've seen are basically a multi (4-8 bikes) stand set up in the car park or in reasonably plane sight nearby with a mains socket hanging above or fixed in front of each bike stand, you just plug your charger in and connect up. Taking the bike inside for charging, given all the recent fire hazard publicity, would I think not be ideal!
