Dropper post on Trek Rail 5

It's nice to be here, this is my first post. Having got my new Trek Rail 5, I didn't see the 'minimum' line on the dropper post, so I pushed it down (to suit my shorter legs), and heard this 'ping'. It was the cable detaching. I pulled the post out and saw the cable in the depths of the frame. Luckily, I managed to unclip the cable, and push it out so that I could reattach the cable. The question I have is, can you go a little bit further beyond the minimum line i.e. is there any tolerance?
EDIT: The minimum line is the maximum you can extend the post out from the frame (sort of logical). Pushing the post further into the frame without pinging the cable off is possible by unclipping the cable and pulling it at the same time. It means a slightly longer cable out to the handlebars, but that's fine.
