Good question, @Robertandjanet - though I want to make sure we're talking about the same thing, because "Velotric M motor" points to a specific bike rather than a motor used across many platforms.

The Velotric Discover M is a commuter/cruiser e-bike (think city riding and rail trails, not trail centre enduro) powered by Velotric's own proprietary VeloCore™ 500W mid-drive motor, rated at 100Nm of torque.

It's a brand-new, self-developed unit - where other e-bike makers might choose Bosch, Brose, TQ or even DJI, Velotric has gone its own path.

On durability specifically: it's very early days. The Discover M only launched in early 2026 and there's essentially no long-term durability data out there yet - no meaningful mileage reports, no pattern of failures or of reliability. What the reviews do note is that Velotric clearly thought about drivetrain wear - mid-drives put way more stress on chains and cassettes, and the throttle on the M has a very gradual ramp-up in power to protect drivetrain life.

They've also spec'd a KMC e-Glide chain rated 33% stronger than international standards, which should translate to longer intervals between drivetrain replacements.

The motor itself features a magnetic rotary encoder integrated into the motor that detects rotor position up to 100,000 times per second, for precise torque and cadence measurement.

That's a reasonable foundation for smooth, non-stressed power delivery - which is generally good for longevity. The honest caveat: it's a first-generation proprietary unit from a company that made its name with hub motors.

The VeloCore mid-drive is Velotric's first venture into this style of propulsion. That's not automatically a red flag - plenty of brands have nailed it first time - but it does mean there's no track record to point to yet.
