• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Hello everyone,

I am planning to use eMax Tuning to make the following modifications on my Orbea Rise H30 with the EP6-RS motor:

  • Increase the speed limit from 20mph
  • Increase maximum torque from 60 to 85Nm, and also the maximum power to 500W
  • Change the gear mode from mechanical to Di2 (after installing the correct derailleur and shifter)

I already tried to adjust these parameters with the eMax mobile app, but it seems that with the newest firmware version, such changes are no longer possible via Bluetooth. I also tried to downgrade the firmware, but I could not find any firmware files available for the EP6 or EP6-RS.

Now I plan to use the miniMax software on Windows to make the changes. I have read that a Shimano PCE02 is required to connect the motor to the computer. I am not sure if the older PCE1 device is also compatible. Since the PCE1 is much cheaper here in the US, I would prefer to use that if possible.

Can someone please tell me if the PCE1 works with miniMax and the newer Shimano motor?

You may have already found your answer but I’m pretty sure you can use a pce01 or pce02 connection. In miniMax you can select either. I’m using a pce02 connection and have found the program to be excellent. I connect the bike to computer through the pce02, then start miniMax, and finally turn on the bike. So far I’ve increased my Rise M10 to 85 nm and 600 watts in fine and boost modes. I just purchased a license to increase max assist speed. I also have electronic XT derailleur and shifter on order and will use miniMax to program it. I am extremely impressed with the emax software and even more impressed with their customer support.

No you did not, you are dishonest and give bad advise.

Marcus highlighted this in green and bold large letters. You would have to be a blithering idiot not to see it.

If you have access to a cable bound SM-PCE02 – interface (the older SM-PCE1 will not work for this!) and a Windows based computer (Windows 10 or Windows 11) then you can optimize your bike with our Windows based miniMax – program and a bike related licence key for the eMax-

Calm down wtf is wrong with you? And fu for calling me dishonest I said I’m “pretty sure” because it is a selectable option in the software. Aggressive asses like yourself ruin forums. If you get that bent out of shape for something so minor I feel sorry for those that have to deal with you on a daily basis 😂

Where do you live?....Some near you may be able to help....

Ok, guys - if there is any question regarding to eMax-Tuning, then either send an email to [email protected] or just post my name in a related post, so I will get informed and try to help and give my advise, because I am very close to the guys from eMax-Tuning and can help in nearly all aspects of this software. :)
The guys from eMax-Tuning contribute very much to the German Pedelecforum via the nickname "PeterMayer" (see e.g. here) and have written several thousand post in there, but they don´t have the time to do some additional work and assistance in this forum, but they will read frequently also in this forum and contact me if there is something the forum here should know or be aware of.

Regarding the older SM-PCE1 interface:
Yes, this older interface will also work on a DU-EP600 or DU-EP801 drive unit and the Windows based miniMax - program if you will have the correct adapter (EW-AD305 and an additional EW-SD300 cable) for the interface adapter cable with the old system big SD50 plug to connect to the newer SD300 receptacles of the new generation drive units (e.g. DU-EP600, DU-EP801 or also the predecessor DU-EP800). See also in chapter 3.2 of this document.
However, although you can speed up your DU-EP600, DU-EP800 or DU-EP801 based bike with the miniMax - program and the old SM-PCE1, there is one downside with the older SM-PCE1: This older interface is no more compatible with the latest versions 5.x.x. of the Windows based E-Tube-Project-Professional program (see here).
So, you CANNOT do any firmware update or diagnosis via this older SM-PCE1 interface.
Sure, you can do a firmware update also via Bluetooth based E-Tube-Project-Cyclist app, however, sometimes this could end up in problems and a complete mess and then you need to recover the bike via the Windows based E-Tube-Project-Professional program and then you URGENTLY need a SM-PCE02 interface.
This is why the guys from eMax-Tuning always suggest to use the (new, small and fast) SM-PCE02 interface.
However, again: YES, you can speed up your bike also with the old SM-PCE1 interface and miniMax, no doubt about that. :)(y)

The guy is a dick, I stopped coming on this forum because of that argumentative bellend. I was hoping that he'd been kicked off by now.
Those who like my posts are happier, more intelligent and better looking than those who don't; according to a study I made up!!!

This older interface is no more compatible with the latest versions 5.x.x. of the Windows based E-Tube-Project-Professional program (see here).
It also introduces the problem that you cannot install the PCE01 cable driver with the new version of the Windows E-Tube App.

Without the PCE01 driver. EMax cannot connect to the motor. So you'd need to source an old version of the Windows ETube App, just so you can install the driver. Then use the EMax software.

Why someone would try and complicate it to save a few bucks is beyond me.
I really don't worry about why people do things. I just answer the questions and let people know the different issues with doing things different ways. Then let them worry about which way they do it. It's not my problem. 😊

I like just being helpful. Because many of the modifications I made, I couldn't have done myself, without this forums, or the Pedelec forums help. It has saved me so much time and money, not having to use a Bike Store. I'm just trying to pay it back.

Hey Folks, the Shimano SM-PCE02 feels expensive for a one-off bike retune. Does anyone have one for sale?
