Cranks 165mm or shorter, requires Bosch motor software update?

Bosch has made some mention of a recent software update adjustment for shorter cranks that can be made at a dealer. Does anyone know if that's required when swapping from 170/175 cranks to 165 mm or under? Seems annoying to need a software update just for changing cranks if so...

You don't need it, but it is supposed to be better if you do have it.

What cranks are you going for?

I'm considering a pair of a Raceface Aeffect 165 mm cranks or anything along those lines that is decently priced and looks durable for fewer pedal strikes.

Has anyone made the swap without a software update? Good/bad experience?

I did it with 155mm cranks and to me it seemed very odd; power was intermittent and it didn't seem as powerful either. It was better with the update. Some places will do it for free.

Did the update require the dealer to change a setting in the software to specify crank length or does one just need to update to the latest firmware?
