Hi everyone!

I've developed a sporty and compact e-cargobike, and the pre-series is currently in production. It will be equipped with the Shimano EP801 Cargo — a smooth, powerfull and quiet motor that I really enjoy.

However, I'm considering diversifying my sourcing, due to Shimano's long lead times.

What are your thoughts on the Bafang M510? In terms of ride quality and reliability, does it compete with the Shimano?

As a cargo bike would the M510 have enough power ( max around 650W's ) ? The M560 would have more power but not as quiet evidently ( sorry I don't have one to compare ). Parts are more available, repairs are becoming easier as more repairers turn to repairing them ( eBike Motor Repairs & Servicing - Homepage ).

i have the two (EP801 and M510)

The max power seem comparable for me, enough for my use (High moutain MTB, 100 kg rider wheight). The différencies are on the software efficiency. The EP801 is more "smart", it's more efficient to climb on technical hard MTB climbing. But may be no importance for gargo use ? The EP801 is a bit more loudness. The M510 is more easy to maintain, spare parts available, firmware "open" for those have BESST tool, with the shimano the using parameters are easly adjusted, but the hard parameters (transmission, wheels diameter, etc..) are locked for the users, even if you have the professional DPCE2 interface . i have not enough perspective to speak about EP801 reliability (3 months using). Exept first use problems sometime, nothing failures with my several M510. User relation ship with bafang is a nightmare (software update for exemple), not existing in fact, but for an profesional, may be more easy ? Personal apreciation. I seem it's more easy to sale an bike with shimano than bafang (at same value).
