I was never a hater as such, just always making excuses to myself such as I will never get fit on one of those etc. I will admit that I was ignorant as to how the assistance worked with you. My early thoughts were that you just pressed a button when you couldn't be bothered.

I'll admit I didn't think well of them, I think I first saw them at my local trail centre when they were doing a demo day. I was busy trying out new full suspension bikes, I kept seeing people on the trails that had taken them out for a demo, I first just thought they were for lazy people and I had heard they were really heavy and just thought they would be hard to ride downhill.
however, this ill feeling only lasted a few hours, after doing both reds on 3 different bikes (6 loops, 4hours) I was exhausted, but still couldn't turn down the offer to try out some new bikes, and decided to have a go on an e-bike to see what all the fuss was about. well it was an absolute blast, I flew up to the top of the red north trail (obviously faster going up) and then back down again (faster than I could ever manage it on a normal bike) and ever since then I've known that they are brilliant.
I think over the past 4 years I've been like an ambassador to e-bikes, a lot of people I talk to about them feel the same way I did, and they don't understand until you ride them. I've now decided to buy myself one (about 10 years earlier than I had imagined) due to health problems, I still want to be able to get out and ride.
whats interesting Is I did used to still think that you need to have something wrong with you (eg, bad knees, heart/lung problems) before you can be allowed to get an e-bike if you are young, otherwise you are just being lazy. well, thats bollocks too! I now see that there are loads of fit & young people riding e-bikes, and they can just do much more riding, more climbing and most importantly more descending!
as word gets around, and as soon as the price of them gets down to a certain point, e-bikes are just going to take over completely

Yes absolutely although prices for mid range stuff is not coming down yet due to growing demand as most are now understanding what ebikes are really about.
But there are more and more entry level ebikes starting at lower price points (which don't seem very good VFM to me).

Same as smartphones but that hasn’t stopped almost everyone owning one.

The subscription model has been a major change in the way we now have things, from computer software to phones and cars. Are we owning or simply renting?
Who actually goes out and buys a new car in full these days?

Even the iPhone OS maps I use to go out riding. A year ago I could buy a map region and own it forever. Now they stopped that and it’s subscription only.

I hear ya on pricing. My brand new Kawi cost 1500.00 less than my emtb and with dirtbikes you get so much more!!!! I went from decades of acoustic mtb riding and racing to the last year on an emtb and now I’m riding a dirtbike and the emtb is for sale and the acoustic mtb has been ridden once in the month that I’ve had the dirtbike and the emtb zero times out haha. The emtb was all the transition I needed to go full moto braaaaap!!!!! Best part is burning in brand new singletrack loops. #tiresnottools ?

Never a hater but untill my knees started to "say no way your going up that hill" and I could no longer enjoy riding up in the scrub that I looked into e-bikes but was not interested in the throttle type where you don't need to pedal then I saw the real thing and had a test ride nuff said

Nope, but I thought my buddy @duk916 was a proper cnut when he powered up climbs while I was puffing like Thomas the Tank Engine.

Then again, today I was n Tour and he was inEco and I could hardly keep thebastage in sight.
Even worse - I was on 9% at the end and he had close to 40% left ....... Fog it All ....
