Hello,

I just love the feeling of the Ohlins TTx22m on my Levo SL and I want to upgrade also my Gen 3 to coil.

Without going for Cascade link, what is the cheapest option on the market?
Will a Rockshox Vivid Ultimate Coil with a progressive spring be a good fit?

Coil springs are really cheap to manufacture. The damper has (*should* have) many precisely machined parts and a fussy assembly process. That all adds up to the damper being expensive to manufacture. The damper valving / shim stack should be designed and set up by an expert in mtb suspension, and this person has to be paid. That adds cost to the damper.

So, what you are actually asking for is a cheap damper that uses a coil spring rather than as air spring. There is a very good chance that a cheap damper will not perform well. Are you sure that's what you want? Ohlins knows what they are doing.

I did not ask for a cheap shock.
I asked for the cheapest.

Like the RS vivid coil 🙂

Bottom of the barrel, eh. Have fun with that!

Paying more doesn't always equate with getting more.

But paying less nearly always equates with getting less.

Very helpful...

I assume OP wants a coil shock that doesn't break the bank and performs well. A Vivid Ultimate fits the bill and is about half the price of an Ohlins but definitely NOT half the performance.

Is your suggestion the cheapest? That is what the OP specifically asked for. If your suggestion is not the cheapest, then your suggestion is not helpful, either.

I just want people to think carefully about what they really want. It's a curse I can't escape.

Buy a Marzocchi Bomber. Then when you're not satisfied with the performance send that out for a professional tune.

The OP mentioned it so I assume it was within their budget. It's a good option and decent value.

I'd keep my eyes open for a previously cherished Ohlins if I were you.

Thanks everyone for the discussion. I found the RS vivid Ultimate Coil C1 at an amazingly discounted price and I went for it. I will add a Sprindex for a bit of progression at the end of the stroke and will rely on the HBO for the same.

Fingers crossed!

Shop used. I picked up a lightly used E-Storia with 2 coils for the price of a new Vivid in December. Deals are out there if you can wait for one.
