Just fitted a new chain and I'm experiencing a little bit of "drag" from the chain leaving the chain ring. Ring was brand new with the previous chain and chain was replaced when 0.5% worn. I normally get 3 chains to a chain ring so it's a bit surprising. I'm reluctant to fit a new chaing ring as it's not that bad but it is annoying. Has anyone had any success with deburring a worn chain ring to stop this?

Same make of chain?? If so the most likely cause is wax on the new chain ( the wax new chains are treated with for packaging and storage). I always strip a new chain to get rid of all that gunk and then lube as normal.

Chain suck is the result when the leading edge of each tooth is worn so much that the distances are greater than the distances between the chain links. When you installed the new chain, the distances between chain links became less, and the chain suck became more evident. Grinding away even more material from the chainring will not help the situation. It's time to buy some new parts. And don't be surprised if you start experiencing problems on the cassette.

Don’t suppose it’s a praxis chainring with the Shimano hyper glide ?
Stating the obvious though chains are sided as is the quick link and align on the chainring a certain way per stencilling

Hi @Mikerb , yes same make. As I use a wax based lube I always degrease and lube before fitting.

Hi @RustyIron I think you're right I'll just have to bite the bullet.

Hi @Snrbrtsn , it is a Shimano Chain and the standard Specialized ring which I assume is Praxis. And I have fitted the correct way. Looks like a new ring is the only answer.

In the future, also look for a "snaggletooth" on the chainring. Sometimes a rock strike will leave a burr on the edge of one or more teeth that grabs the chain and cause the dreaded chainsuck. You can just file it off and ride on it no problem.
