I have just bought myself another EMTB after retiring my last, and again chose the Bosch 625Wh battery rather than the larger 750Wh.

Most of my rides are quite long and a single 750Wh won’t be enough. So I have two 625Wh’s and nearly always take the 2nd in my EVOC backpack. A 2nd 750Wh battery would be too long for the backpack, heavier and overkill for what power I need.

For me two 625Wh batteries are the only option. Bigger may not be better, yet.

BTW, Although the bike does take a 750Wh as there is a removable spacer, it gives me the option to shell out for a 750Wh(or bigger?) should I ever start doing regular one battery rides.

How long are your rides?

My Bosch Gen 4 bike can fit two of the older 500 frame batteries on it.
I'm not into carrying batteries in the backpack.
Only downside is the bike weights 30kg.

I agree that if you have a bike that makes hot swapping batteries easy, or has a range extender, a smaller battery can be quite nice. Having your bike be only as heavy as it needs to be for the ride at hand is only to the good.

green eyed monster here for needing that much battery, I get 2-3 hours on a 400wh battery between 40-80kms depending on location

30-50k, >1000m total ascent. most 3-4 hrs. All gnarly off road stuff.
For this ride, 625 is plenty for me, could do it with 500 if not at a race. Usually ride on trail mode, using turbo only 5%. My bike fits a 625 maximum, but I have a 500 with an adapter which is lighter, that goes on a back pack or tied to the frame, depending on the ride. What I really look for is a bike that could take three batteries with 320-360 or whatever size would be allowed on airplanes.

Exactly the same set up (bar a Shimano 630wh instead of your Bosch 625wh). Evoc E-Ride backpack. I found out the hard way after a 35mi/55km ride and 1400m/4300ft of climbing and ran out of battery 3 miles from the end/car in the middle of the Peak District...not fun....so I purchased a spare battery.
My usual local ride of 24mi and 2200ft is easily done on a single battery so I don't always need the spare battery. The EVOC is the most comfortable backpack I've ever had, I don't even notice the weight with the battery onboard (exception being gnarly steep climbs, then I know it's there).
