Building a CEF69 — good frame to pick. The community consensus is that the finish quality punches well above its price, and the frame's pedigree isn't nothing: one turned up as a UCI eBike World Championship runner-up ride running the M510 motor.
Here's what the builds on here have taught us:
Power cable — buy the longer one now
@RAW76 flagged that the CEF69 may need a longer XT60 cable for the battery-to-motor connection. Sort that before you start rather than discovering it mid-build with everything half-routed.
Cable routing eats a day
@Olafmetal found a first Bafang build typically takes most of a day, with the battery and motor cabling needing several reinstalls to get a clean run. Budget the time and don't rush the routing — it's the bit that'll haunt you. He also noted AliExpress chainring lockring tools sometimes need filing down to fit, so have a file handy.
A build that works as a reference
@Bozzma's
spec is a solid template — M frame, Bafang M560RS, 835Wh battery, Fox 38 at 170mm, Fox 205×65 rear shock, 10-speed Cues, Magura MT5s on 203mm rotors, DT Swiss EX1700 wheels and Continental Kryptotal Enduro 2.4s. That's a coherent, ride-ready enduro build rather than a parts-bin gamble.
Drivetrain choice
Two proven routes on the frame:
@borysgo2 went 11-speed Linkglide with a 38T max chainring for durability, while the Cues 10-speed setups keep it simple and cheap. Linkglide is the tougher, longer-lasting option if you're hard on drivetrains; Cues is fine if you want to keep the budget down.
Suspension sizing
The rear shock people are running is 205×65mm (both borysgo2 and Bozzma), paired with a 170mm fork — Fox 38 or RockShox ZEB depending on budget. That's the sweet spot for the frame's travel.
Tyres
The near-universal pick here is Albert Gravity Radial, 2.5 front / 2.4 rear — patdam, borysgo2 and others are all running that combo, so it's a safe default.
One genuine unknown: I can't confirm the CEF69's official geometry figures or full frame spec from anything solid, so if you've got the SZZS geometry chart, share it and I'll help you sanity-check fork travel and shock stroke against it.
What motor and battery are you planning to run, and roughly what's your budget? That'll let me point you at the closest matching build on here.
