Hi everyone,
New here, first post. I'm 65 and just bought a new Turbo Levo 4 Comp Carbon S4 with the newest firmware. Bought on 3/21/2026 in Charlotte NC.
I originally was set to buy the Vado 6.0 but the hardtail was punishing on my 65 year old bones, the plusher ride of the Levo and the spring sale was a no brainer.

All is great except I notice a little play right where the dropper post enters the seat tube. If I put my fingers right around that area and slightly grab the back of the saddle and move up and down there is loose play. Everything is properly torqued. Is this to be expected with a dropper seat post?

Thanks so much

Just to check - is the play between the fixed position 'lower' tube of the dropper and the seat tube of the frame, or where the dropper stanchion enters the lower tube of the dropper?

(Jeez, that was harder to ask than I thought, never had to think about what the 2 tubes on the dropper are called!)

A little play in the dropper stanchion where it enters the dropper is normal, but absolutely not between dropper and frame.

Hi thanks very much for your reply. I attached a picture with an arrow pointing to where the play/movement can be felt.

Not to be pedantic, but that's not where the dropper enters the seat tube. Your picture points to the seal between the two pieces of the dropper post. You'd expect to have a little bit of play in the bushing, and to be able to feel it with your fingers.

Hi, then yes, this is not between the dropper and the frame, but where the dropper stanchion enters the lower fixed portion of the dropper. A little play here is quite normal (fore/aft, but also a little rotation). Check the dropper collar is nice and tight (the bit with the writing on it, usual righty-tighty), then go ride it like you stole it 😊🤘

If the seal is not flexible enough to keep sealing the stanchion while you are riding, then muck will get in and ruin the dropper. Your body weight heaving to and fro on the saddle is sure to make a bigger gap than you will have done with your fingers and hands. The muck does not have to be gritty particles, muddy water will do serious damage all by itself.

The others are correct, take it back to your bike shop.
If they do nothing, at least you have put a peg in the ground for future reference when the dropper fails.

I have ZERO play between the dropper and the frame, just a very little bit of play between the dropper stanchion and the lower fixed portion of the dropper. The Specialized factory store is literally three blocks from where I live. I will bring it there and compare to several other Levo's they have and get the staffs opinion and report back here. Thank you all!!

Its normal to have movement between body and the stanchion. Go into LBS and compare different droppers.

As everyone has said, a "little" play is normal in a dropper post, especially the low-end OEM Manic.
Since you were upsold from a Vado, it sounds like you are more of a road biker than an offroad trail biker. Have you considered replacing the Manic dropper post with a traditional carbon or alloy fixed seat post?
No more play, and you will lighten your bike by almost a pound.

Hey everyone. As promised I went to my Specialized store and every single bike with a dropper, including the $15k S-Works MTB's all had a little play in them. In fact....my personal Turbo Levo 4 Comp Carbon has the least amount of play compared to the 14 bikes I checked. So I am good with this😅

For Randycpu....I will look into a fixed seat post just for the weight drop alone.
