Bosch motor warranty?

Hi guys. I've have had a Trek Rail 9.8 for just over two years now, which I flipping love. I am currently on my third motor and this is now starting to play up. I have taken the bike into the LBS where I purchased it from to process the fault/warranty claim with Bosch. However, I have been informed today that the 2 year motor warranty does not renew with each new motor, as with the rest of the bike it is from the original purchase date. I was told at the last motor change the motor warranty did renew with every new motor, what is everyone else’s experiences with this, if any? Cheers Tom

A new part has to be fit for purpose. Fit for purpose generally means a minimum 1 year warranty on any replaced parts in the western world.

For example, if the engine in my car was replaced by the manufacturer, I'd expect the new engine to come with a minimum warranty regardless of age/milage of the car itself....

This was explained to me at the LBS (Trek) a few days ago. The warranty on the motor is active from the date of purchase, not from the date of new install.
Fortunately my motor (cx gen4) has been trouble free for the past 3+ years. (10k+ kms), however my neighbor, broken motor bracket bolt. He decided on a new motor and the old motor becomes a spare. Warranty has expired months ago. I will likely clarify the warranty on his new motor since it was purchased outside the warranty time-limit.

That seems strange to me, they can explain it all they want but I'm pretty sure consumer law would say otherwise? The law states( not verbatim) in the UK at least that a replacement part has to be of suitable quality. I'm sure this has been discussed before, or someone with more knowledge will be along soon. Also I thought Bosch only sold new motors on an exchange basis, how did your friend manage to keep the old one?

The law states( not verbatim) in the UK at least that a replacement part has to be of suitable quality. I'm sure this has been discussed before, or someone with more knowledge will be along soon. Also I thought Bosch only sold new motors on an exchange basis, how did your friend manage to keep the old one?

I'm sure trek would pass it straight over to Bosch. From previous posts about motor mounting bolts coming loose and snapping/creaking like mad Mitch simply stated 'we buy the motors in with the brackets attatched'.....

We work directly with Bosch to handle claims. They run through us but ultimately are processed by Bosch for the end result. If a shop let its customer keep the original motor after a replacement, that would be something they'd be requesting for themselves since they are likely taken back to be recycled(?).

Also, the warranty is from the original date of purchase, so replacements near the edge of that, or that are outside of the 2-years, are no longer covered by Bosch. You should check with your retailer to see if replacement parts are available if it is something external that can be repaired.

Yes, this is correct. They can 'claim' what terms they like, but any decent lawyer - even a legal helpline - will supply the appropriate wording to shut that nonsense down.

You can stand in the shop and say all the appropriate words however they can still stand there and deny it. There needs to be an additional step in the process.
