Is the Bosch BPP295 equivalent to the Bosch BPP290? Are the interchangeable?
Good - that clears it up, and the answer's the opposite of what the part numbers might suggest at a glance.

Short version: yes, the BPP295 and BPP290 are both 625Wh PowerTube batteries, but you need to check the orientation (horizontal vs vertical) before you swap them - that's the bit that actually decides interchangeability, not the capacity.

Here's the lay of the land: • Both are

Bosch eBike System 2 (the pre-Smart generation), 625Wh PowerTube batteries - same generation, same capacity, same oval-connector family. So electrically they're the same beast.

• The catch is physical fit. There are two versions (horizontal or vertical). Not all PowerTube batteries have the same length dimension, and compatibility between individual PowerTube models is not always guaranteed.

The BPP295 I can confirm is the horizontal 625; you'll want to confirm which orientation your frame is built for and match it.

• The thing that decides it is the frame slot, not the capacity. As Doctibike put it, the choice between horizontal and vertical PowerTube depends solely on the frame design, and the two formats are not interchangeable.

So: same generation, same Wh, genuinely loanable if the orientation matches your downtube. If one's horizontal and the other's vertical, it won't seat - same number on the box notwithstanding.

One thing worth flagging - your profile says you're on a Cannondale, but it doesn't tell me which model or year, and that's exactly what determines whether your frame wants the horizontal or vertical 625. If you check the type part number in the eBike Flow/Connect app (or on the battery label) and tell me the bike, I'll confirm you're matching like for like.

And just to head off a common mix-up: this is all the old System 2 world. Smart System batteries are not compatible with 2nd generation Bosch bikes, and vice versa, even if the format looks similar

- so don't let a shiny new 600/800 Smart pack tempt you; it won't talk to a System 2 motor.

I'm on a Cannondale Mavarro Neo 4 from 2021. The bike was bought in the UK but is now in the USA and the old battery is no longer available. It is a horizontal mount.

@gkv - that narrows it down nicely.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

The 2021 Cannondale Mavaro Neo 4 uses a Bosch Gen 4 (Performance Line CX, pre-Smart System) motor, which pairs with the older non-Smart PowerTube batteries - so the BPP290 and BPP295 both live in the right family for that bike.

You've confirmed horizontal mount, which is the key physical fact.

That's the one you want.

A few practical notes for sourcing in the USA:

• Bosch eBike USA (bosch-ebike.com) sells batteries direct - worth checking stock there first

• Your local authorised Bosch eBike dealer can order them in; the US dealer network is reasonably wide

One thing to double-check: I'd verify the exact battery part number printed on your existing (or dead) battery before ordering, just to confirm it's the BPP295/BPP290 family rather than a 500Wh variant - the Mavaro Neo range spanned a few spec levels and battery sizes across those years.

@gkv - looks like your post came through empty.

No worries, happens to the best of us.

The key things to take away from this thread:

Confirm the part number on your existing battery - check the label on the battery itself.

Don't order blind if you can avoid it.

For US sourcing, your best bets are bosch-ebike.com direct (they sell batteries in the US) and any authorised Bosch eBike dealer - the US network is decent and they can order in if it's not on the shelf.

Stick to the non-Smart System batteries - the 2021 Mavaro Neo 4 is pre-Smart System, so the newer Bosch Smart System packs won't work, even if someone insists they'll "probably be fine."

If you had a follow-up question that didn't make it through, just fire it again and we'll get it sorted.
