It recently picked up a 400c display for the top tube on my Trek Rail.

I usually ride the same trails and know where I am going so no need for navigation. Last year I went on a ride that I am not familiar with that I want to repeat but I am not sure on the directions. I uploaded the gpx file from the ride to the flow app, but it is changing the route as it's off road and won't just use the same route from the gpx file.

Here is the original route from gpx.

And here is what Bosch reckons I should ride...

Anyone come across this before? Looks like the navigation from Bosch will only really work on roads.

Anyone come across this before?

I have had various issues with the Bosch navigation, using routes I have planned with Komoot, particularly on loop routes, I have had it direct me back to the start/destination point after only a short distance on the planned route and have also seen it take a short cut if the outgoing route either intersects or is close to the return route. Bosch navigation also seems to dynamically recalculate the route in the event you take a wrong turn, which can really mess you up, rather than indicating your route is, for example 100 metres behind you (Komoot). So no surprise to me that it revises your original gpx file.
I only use the Komoot navigator direct to my mobile phone these days, maybe the new Komoot option "Navigate with Bosch" is an improvement!

I’ve had similar issues with routes I’ve previously recorded via different apps and when imported into flow it double the distance and redirects me all over the place.

I contacted Bosch who said that their app will only navigate over known routes, and therefore if you have gone cross country or over routes that are not already designated as a known route then the app will redirect you looking for one.

Has anyone tried the new display with Komoot? I'm looking at upgrading if it will route local trails.

Unfortunately it’s the exact same issue as when you import an gpx, unless Bosch maps have the routes as known routes then it will still divert the planned route to follow knows paths.

Gower round the Bryn is shown in Komoot as being 28.7km but when either loading it directly in flow app, or using navigate with Bosch in the Komoot app the loaded map still rereoutes all unknown paths to known paths and increases the total kM to 40.4km.

Many thanks for replying. Looks like I'll be buying a cheap Garmin and keeping my fingers crossed it gets fixed sometime in the future.

I’m not entirely sure they’ll fix it, as far as Bosch are concerned there’s nothing to fix. Theyre response to me was that they will always chose to navigate known routes only.

So it will not follow a GPX route already made? It just defaults back to known trails? Thats not great.

Yep it's pretty bad. Should at least give you the option to follow a gpx as it shouldn't even need to calculate anything then, just follow the gpx.

Makes it unusable for me.

I've just downloaded and installed the Bosch ebike connect app and loaded the GPX via the Komoot and it matches exactly. When I load the same GPX in the Bosch Flow App it's obviously broken.

As I don't have a Kiox 400c, I can't see if I can connect the display to ebike connect instead of Bosch Flow.

I've ordered the 400c just to see!

Edited to say everything I can find states you must use the Flow app with the modern displays. I've raised a helpdesk ticket with Bosch to complain but don't expect it to be fixed.

I've complained on the Bosch Flow Facebook page too as they were stating absolute rubbish about the app working.

Fingers crossed they will fix, though my guess is that it's a MapBox issue as they are trying to enable turn by turn routing.

That is not possible. All smart displays need the Flow app to connect.

The error with Flow navigation breaking imported routes from Komoot was introduced a few weeks back with an update to Flow.

I have seen one answer from Bosch support confirming the error. There was no reason given other than the normal advice about always planning routes exactly along known paths. Off grid planning in Komoot will always break Flow navigation.

However, the support person mentioned an upcoming version 1.30 of the Flow app that will allow you to import gpx files and follow them as a non routed track with Flow.

That's great news!

Seems 1.30 does indeed now allow you to both customise the screen and also override the re-routing.

I have an android device and got this update a couple of days ago. Switching off the routing and following a gpx will be useful.

Mines updated and doesn’t show any customisation and I’ve lost the option to change power on my modes. I can set the 100nm but not the 750w

I had a couple of issues too, try deleting the app and reinstalling it again, it worked for me.

Yeap, mine was a total restore. Had to re-synch the bike and then it spent ages downloading and installing an update to the bike.

The follow original route option does seem to work though.

I’ve reinstalled the app, added the bike again and it’s still the same.

Lost the performance update and no screen customisation. IMG_1300.jpegIMG_1301.jpegIMG_1302.jpeg

Well first ride out today with the new navigation and whilst it does now follow the original route it constantly froze and only started to track the ride again once I opened the Flow App on my phone.

Total KM travelled or left didn't work either.

Just to update, for the new navigation to work it needs a couple of permissions enabled on your phone for the Flow App.

Android:

Location: Allow all the time
Battery: Unrestricted

It works perfectly now so long as you remember to select original route checkbox when you import the GPX file into the Flow App.

thats great. How easy is it to actually use? Is there a trail map also on the screen (Like garmin) ? Or just a line to follow.

And I just read that they have a paid option called Flow+ that gives "extended navigation"???

Without the paid subscription the navigation screen only shows the line to follow, no crossings or any other roads. It rotates to always show your route going up, but lags a bit behind your actual position. The triangle representing your position is at the lower edge of the screen, so you can see what's coming next.

With the subscription the 'extended navigation' will give you what you see on the screen in your last post - a few side roads to help with orientation. As I don't have a subscription I do not know whether this is also true when following a GPX route, but I doubt it.

The Bosch navigation screen does not show any kind of map features. Most likely because the Bosch display has no local map storage and even the Flow app on the phone doesn't have one. The navigation 'map' is downloaded on the fly during the ride and constantly transferred to the display via Bluetooth.

Overall in my limited experience (have the new bike with Kiox 400C for two weeks now), following GPX trails works, but I wouldn't rely on it in a totally unknown area.
