I’m riding an eMTB with a Dengfu frame equipped with a Bafang M510 motor. In the motor firmware settings, there are several adjustable parameters, but I’m not sure what some of them mean. The items I don't understand are: assistance %, acceleration, and startup angle.

Here is a screenshot of my current firmware settings. I’d really appreciate it if anyone could explain what adjusting these three parameters actually does.

Thanks in advance for your help, and ride safe!

Hi,
assistance: is proportion of you leg power to power from motor, example if 100% - motor will give you same power like you press pedals, if 150% - motor give you 50% more than your leg power \\ 160% is normal for trails on my e-fatbike for ride anything

acceleration: is how fast motor get to max power from start, 1 - slow start , 7 - fast start \\ I think normal is 2 for trail and 5 for uphils

Startup angle: at what degree you move pedals before motor start, 10 degrees is normal for me

IMHO settings from you screenshot is fast death for motor from extra low startap angle and over-assistance
but if you change anything you can't change 25km speed limit in this program

acceleration is a power ramp how fast motor delivers power , i think is better to have it fast on weak assist and slow on strong assist , its harder for u but safer for drivetrain

I really appreciate your response. Thank you for taking the time to help me despite your busy schedule. You mentioned that my motor might be consuming too much electricity—what part should I fix to resolve that issue? Also, have you ever set up the same firmware as shown in the photo I shared? Wishing you many enjoyable rides ahead.

My settings was made like more MTB-fitness so I use only 3 levels
Startup angle: 10 degree
#E: assistance 140 max.power 40 acceleration 2 speed limit 25kmh -ride on roads with walking people
#T: assistance 160 max.power 80 acceleration 2 speed limit 40kmh -ride on forest trails
#S: assistance 250 max.power 90 acceleration 4 speed limit 40kmh -ride on hard forest trails with many descends \ uphills

no, I don't try settings like yours

How can I set a different speed for each mode? Is that possible?

There is a facility to restrict the speed in each level to a percentage of the max speed. If you start with a 45kph speed in Boost you maybe able to set the lower levels to 25kph ( 54% )

Speed limit % is a bad label from Bafang. It is maximum rotor RPMs.

So it does not have anything with speed limit as we have derailures. ;) If you have a single speed ebike, then it will indeed set also speed limit per each PAS level. But not good to throttle it in low RPMs - bad efficency here. Just leave it all at 100%.

Also no need to set 1 degree, resolution with rotation sensor is like 8.5 degree (not exactly sure about right number).

More acceleration = more stress on internals, chain, cassete, hub.

Assistance % is important - if you like to push into pedals more or less. Lower percentage = better range as you will put more energy into ride by legs.

Hi, not agree, without throttle, only on pedals if I set Speed limit in % ~ = 25 km/h it will cut off motor when you get 25km/h no matter what gear or cadence.
But I do not like it, I can get 27km/h on foots without motor and I hear strange sounds from motor when it on-off-on-off ...
After year of use Ebike I set E mode limit only in case of police questions
