• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

I am also very interested in this topic, especially as it features an internal GPS.

so does the M1 - I`d be willing to bet money it`ll work the same. Won`t get to upgrade mine till October though so someone else will have to confirm once they`ve got their hands on one.

Yesterday I managed to set up a new Avinox M2S for the HK region. It was quite easy because I followed the following procedure:
Install NordVPN and activate the 3-day trial period (after pairing is complete, log out again in Google Play so that money does not start being deducted).
Set the HK region (or New Zealand) in the application. Check via DNS Propagation Checker - Check DNS Propagation Worldwide if the mobile really works via NordVPN and the HK region.
Download the Avinox ride application. Register with your email and password. It is important to do this under VPN, if you have already registered, you need to use a different address, as it is already registered on the Avinox servers.
Then pair with the Avinox display. Alternatively, reset the display to factory settings.
Then it is done, the motor helps up to 28mph (45km/h). You can download the FW update. I downloaded version 01.03.0110.
Then you can uninstall NordVPN.
The only problem is that if you accidentally uninstall the application or change your phone, you will probably need to log in again under the HK region. Because the region settings will be adjusted with each new login.
The question is whether it is possible to download the next FW update already in our region, or under VPN.

Yeah, would be interesting to see when the avinox app updates on your phone, whether this would have an effect. Particularly if you weren't paying attention and let it upgrade via your home country.
Then again, all your phone apps update when you're travelling, I guess you'd have to VPN the phone to NZ or HK when conducting a firmware update.

I thought the new M2s has the option to just click whatever class mode without all the vpn stuff again?

I asked AI this question (after I bought a sim card and wanted to connect it to the display to track my bike):

I set a different country when registering the Avinox application due to the speed limit. Can I still download FW updates in my country via wifi or SIM? What is the risk that they will remotely detect me and limit the limit to 25km/h? I wanted to connect a SIM there for security reasons, but I don't want to risk losing the benefits of another region.

AI warned me that in this case, it does not recommend using a SIM card due to greater integration with the Avinox cloud, and that they can remotely set it to my region at any time.
And of course, I should reject any new FW and first consult its harmlessness on forums such as this one. What do you think? Thanks.
