Avinox M1 issue

My Avinox M1 motor has play in the axel.

It’s only 6 months old and hasn’t covered many hard miles. Initially I thought it was a motor bolt or pedal coming loose, but when I turned the bike over and grab a crank arm, I can feel about a mm of play in the axel. The drive side crank arm also has a slight wear mark on once section of the face where it meets the face of the motor indicating rub.

All the bolts on the bike & crank arms are torqued to spec. Anyone encountered this issue? I have a warranty claim open through the bike shop.

I have the same issue on my Amflow PL. It has been like this from the first day of riding.

I haven’t checked for a wear mark on the drive-side crank arm yet, but the play definitely feels like it’s in the motor axle/spindle itself, not the crank arm, pedal, or motor mounting bolts. If I grab the crank arm and rock it side to side, I can feel the play and sometimes hear a knock.

Please keep updated on the warranty claim. I’d really like to know whether the shop consider this normal or if the motor needs replacing.

Bike shop has said the warranty is progressing. No idea what the outcome will be, but he is convinced it’s not normal. There shouldn’t be any play in the axel.

I have now been through 3 motors under warranty with this axle play issue. Each one has the play straight out of the box. It seems to me that Avinox cannot offer an M1 motor without this problem, I have video documentation of every one of these.

I’d like to stay in touch with anyone who also has this issue as I’m starting to question where it will lead to. Avinox are admitting there is a problem by issuing warranty for it, but what is the process when all the new motors they send have the same problem straight out of the box?

Interesting. They have warrantied the unit and a replacement is being shipped. I pressed for an m2/m2s but they said it’s not the warranty procedure as did Unno.

Seems a bit of a waste if they do all have play. I’m not going to accept it as a quirk of the system as the crank arm kept coming loose as a result.

I’ve had no problems with the crank arms, but I have seen that others have. It’s also fairly conspicuous that Avinox have added a hard stop on the axle for the axle/crank interface on the M2, I suspect to prevent overtightening of the crank arm.

But I am the same as you in that I find it very hard to accept this issue as a quirk of the system, I understand perfectly well how bearings work and this should definitely not be a thing. Anyone who has owned a bottom bracket knows that loose bearings lead to excessive wear.

It’s why SRAM designed their DUB system to have a preload tensioner. What bike are you riding? Mines Unno Mith.

I did ask before the first warranty if there was a preload adjustment in there, but Avinox aren’t forthcoming with any diagrams or wanting to encourage any kind of user maintenance.
