Hi

I converted my e mtb to tubeless a few months back and have done over 300 miles on them with no issues . However this weekend my front tyre blew off the rim. Luckily I was not going fast but it was worrying nevertheless . I’m now worried that this could happen again . I’ll change my tyre in case the bead is over stretched but just wanted to ask if this was fairly common ? Running 29er Nobby Nics at 40psi with Stan’s sealant

are the rims tubeless ready?
40 PSI is massive for a tubeless tyre, this heat it could of gone up too?
Did it burp after a rock strike or drop etc?

The bike is a Cube stereo hybrid 140 HPC and the rims are stated as tubeless ready .
Looking more into the tyre pressures it looks as though in this heat i should be running them at about 25 to 30 psi so that could have been the issue .
Im nit sure about burping , i hit a rock , not a large one , and there was an loud pop and i looked down and the tyre was hanging off .

Man, that's a LOT of pressure. Also, that rim doesn't appear to have much of a bead lock or sidewall on it. Which rim is it?

yep it sounds like a mixture of too much pressure, a rock strike, and potentially low sidewall rims.

That's both impressive and an unlucky set of circumstances. As said above best to check that your rims are up to it.

I’ve just read the small print and as I suspected when I bought the bike it does say tubeless ready. And there was already decent tubeless rim tape installed

Looking at the Alex Rims site for the EXR 30, the rim profile looks fine. Might just have to chalk it up to "sh*t happens".

Your level of comfort must be very different than mine but you must be getting the sh!t shaken out of your hands, arms and head at that tire pressure unless you are riding on some pretty smooth single track! When a tire states MAX PRESURE: XX PSI it means that is what the tire can handle NOT what they should be run at.

Thanks for all your comments and views .

After reading them all and doing some more research ive decide to buy 2 x Schwalbe Nobby Nic Evo Super Trail MTB Tyres, 29", 2.6", SpeedGrip to replace my current Nobby Nic Performance.

The are expensive but they will make me confident of riding the bike aggressively again instead of having blowout fear again. And as soneone mentioned im not sure the original Nobbys were tubeless compliant anyway and that would always be in the back of my mind.

Thanks again and be safe

oh and i will be running them at 25psi as well and not 40

I'd suggest you start at 24F/28R (as you're coming from such a high starting point), and then once you get a feel for that drop to 22F/26R and see if you prefer it. If you do, drop another 2 PSI and repeat until you don't like it, and then add the 2 PSI back in and you have your sweet spot.
