Is there an easy replacement for a 38T chainring from the standard 36T? For 2023 Giant Stance e+1
The 2023 Giant Stance E+1 runs a Yamaha SyncDrive Sport motor, which uses a direct-mount chainring system rather than a standard BCD bolt pattern. The stock 36T ring is specific to that motor interface.
For going up to 38T, you'll want to check two things: whether the chainring physically clears the chainstay, and whether a 38T option exists in the correct mount for your motor. Giant's own chainring options for SyncDrive Sport motors tend to be limited in size range, but aftermarket brands like e*Thirteen and others do make compatible direct-mount rings in various sizes.
The chainstay clearance is the real concern. Several community members have found that even a 2T jump can be the difference between "fits fine" and "kissing the chainstay," and the Stance has relatively compact stays.
@Machine5555 found that the
2020 Stance E SyncDrive Sport has a non-standard chainring attachment with 40 teeth on the centre spline, which made finding aftermarket options difficult. Worth checking whether your 2023 model shares that same interface or whether Giant updated it.
Before ordering anything, I'd measure the gap between your current 36T ring and the chainstay. If you've got less than about 3-4mm, a 38T is going to be a very tight squeeze. Also worth noting your profile shows a 2021 Stance E+2, so I'm guessing the 2023 is a newer addition to the stable?
