Must be an issue with the dropper or lever? I've used at least five different brands of dropper and numerous dropper levers, zero issues with using derailleur cable, inner or outer.

That's strange, every dropper I've fitted, I've used derailleur cable. Are you getting confused with brake cable?

Isn't calling a gear cable a dropper cable just a reason to increase the price?

Yes just changed lever end to Shimano olive and barb, both use mineral oil, I just topped up with some Magura fluid that I had, no issues at all. I find this setup more powerful than the full Shimano systems that I have on other bikes.

I just changed the levers to Shimano on my db8 brakes, more powerful than straight Shimano setup

I get the same noise with my front brake using a Galfer rotor, it's just the holes in the rotor, nothing to worry about
