🚴 Why Don't You Ride to Work or for Everyday Commitments?

For everyday use I'd like to use my bicycles a lot more, but there is mostly no way to lock up an expensive bike securely. Work is a non starter as I do 12hr shifts and its 21 miles. I used to cycle 25 miles each way in my previous job but that was only 8hr shifts. I'd also not use an ebike for...

    Creaking, have I missed anything?

Lose wheels spokes was one of mine. Another one was the seat itself ie where the metal bits go into the plastic.

    Motor Resistance, real or imagined?

So any engineer that understands just how motors actually work, will know the original post conclusion is flawed.

    Quick coffee machine poll

A fool and his money are soon parted ....... Simple £20 cafetiere ffs! £7 for a bag of ground coffee. Zero waste as grounds go into compost. It's really beyond me how or why someone would spend 400 quid on a coffee maker.

    Why no GPS based limits?

Surely in this day and age of cheap electronics the manufacturers could limit the bike when on public roads but remove that restriction once you got off road into woods and mountains etc. Then the speed/assistance would be set to level the motor could withstand. The market for boosters to daft...

Suggestions on when to change chain and chainring

There is a tool ie a measuring gauge for chains. It's a cheap bit of metal cut to the correct size for chain type. If it's stretched enough for the gauge change the chain. Cassette? Visual check or replace at same time or two chains per cassette

Haibike violent out of balance rear wheel

I took my road bike wheel I to be 'fixed' once cos it was jumping up and down. Paid for a balance/true up but the shop had me over as it turned out the tyre had a massive flat spot on it when I did an emergency stop doing 40mph down a hill and locked up wearing the tyre away! Got it home and it...

Cycle to work scheme a non starter

Was thinking of a haibike altm 7 which is just over 5k from official dealer. Not sure about buying from places that sell them cheaper but are not listed on haibike's site as a dealer.

Cycle to work scheme a non starter

Just recovering from knee surgery so I can finally justify getting an emtb (finally come to terms with the cost lol). Been to a local shop etc then remembered my work does the cycle to work thing. Got the info back today - limited to £3500. Bollox that isn't nearly enough. Seems you are no...

E-bike speed restrictions (agree or disagree )

Well he can until I hit 15mph or more then he tends to stop pedalling as he's then working against the motor. If he switches it off its easier to pedal. On a short down and up I pull away. 15mph is actually very easy to achieve on a smooth track or slight downhill slope. Do we want to spend 4...

E-bike speed restrictions (agree or disagree )

My friend has recently bought a 2021 giant trance and we met for a ride in the local woods. We live in the UK so the bike is restricted to 15mph. I must say that I can out perform him everywhere (on my pedal only 2005 giant reign) other than long hills or starting short hills from a standstill...

    Giant Stance Intermittent Ticking Noise

I've had spokes creek before. Took ages to work out. Tightened up nipples and all good.

Has the 2nd hand market bubble finally burst ?

Warranties aren't transferable are they? I know giant's aren't. What with 0% finance and now 3yrs warranty offered on motor my mate bought new instead of used.

Article Can you trust an eMTB Motor in 2021?

I was in a giant shop two days ago. 3yrs warranty on motor and is fully rebuildable. Seems OK to me. Might even buy one. My mate did.

    Amazon and bike parts

Last time I went to my local bike shop they tried to sell me a used bottom bracket as new ... so yes I buy from amazon. 'This has been used' I said 'oh our mech fitted by error and took off again, he's an idiot '. Mmm the ingrained dirt on splines said otherwise.

Well that's great. Going to have to buy one now!

    Oops. Done this myself ?

Well that's great. Going to have to buy one now!

Been on the fence for ages. Price and longevity the stumbling blocks. My riding buddy was looking at a bike on ebay but it fell through. I sent him a link for a new giant and the fact they do 36 months 0% finance. This led us to visiting a local giant shop. I was very surprised to be told they...

Price of bikes - some thoughts....

Well talk about light blue touch paper and stand back! ? To add my 2p worth. Price of individual components can't be used as a gauge to price of the whole. There has been plenty of articles where cars/bikes have been costed from parts and its horrendous.

Price of bikes - some thoughts....

OK full confession, I've yet to jump onto the e/bike wave but this also applies to non e bikes too. The other day I had a thought. Almost all of the components that make up a bike is bought in, with zero design or development cost so why are they (the bikes) so expensive? And are premium...
