Bosch CX (BDU450, Kiox) 503 speed sensor fault - disappeared

Aergh - after that ride, did two more of 35km each with no issues - now it's back again. did 20km of reds, then whilst riding along on a road, it threw 503 again. Dropped the cover off, the sensor is still plugged in, with no sign of anything weird. I'll fit another sensor, because that's...

Bosch CX gen 4 swap for gen 5?

The motor casings are different, different internals, materials, weight, features, design etc. The bolt pattern changed becuase it needed to to accommodate the improvements. Not everything is Big Ebike trying to stick it to customers.

Towing Children with a Full Suspension EMTB

Trailgators are evil lumps of iron that will quickly ruin any kids frame they are bolted to. Far better to invest in a Followme Tandem. Yes they cost loads. But they are an order of magnitude better, and you can sell them for loads when not needed.

    New universal kickstand is brilliant

I’ve been using this universal through-axle kickstand for a month, and it’s genius. Not cheap at €130-ish. But it will fit any through-axle-equipped bike, now and in future as the threads are swappable. And it can fit a trailer hitch at the same time. You can swap it between bikes of different...

Bosch CX gen 4 swap for gen 5?

Thanks for the respect, but I’m 100% correct. E-bikes are certified as vehicles, as a system. Any major modification - like a different engine, driving wheel size etc, requires recertification, and that is why bike brands and Bosch don’t do it. Even a like-for-like motor swap has a lot of...

Bosch CX gen 4 swap for gen 5?

The thing is, Bosch didn’t make your bike. Say Cube did. They certified it with Bosch being just one of many components. If they (or Bosch) actively help you modify the bike beyond its certified state, the bike is then potentially illegal. No company law dept is going to take on that risk...

Bosch CX (BDU450, Kiox) 503 speed sensor fault - disappeared

Went on a 20k canal path ride. At the start there was an intermittent 503 speed sensor error, that eventually became permanent. No change of magnet etc. The assist never stopped completely, just felt like Eco mode. Was able to pedal in the 11T cog and keep up with the group. Speed showing 0. So...

Bosch CX gen 4 swap for gen 5?

What few to no-one realises is that an ebike is sold as a ‘vehicle’. It’s certified by the manufacturer to comply with various standards. Any modification can invalidate that verification, and likely land the shop that did it or the brand / Bosch in serious trouble. That’s why when I swap a...

New XTR Link Glide 11s mech - running off Bosch Gen4 (non-Smart) motor?

So the new XTR mech looks awesome - I was so pleased to see the eMTB version is 11s Link Glide! But it can ONLY run off the motor - there's no Link Glide battery-powered option. OK, so it needs wiring. But tit also looks like they have only made a wire for the Smart system High Power Port, not...

Ride review - Cairngorms Inner Loop in two days / using two batteries

Don’t know why, can’t edit, the EVOC Battery pack is a great bit of kit if you want to keep your bike light as possible. The ride is great overall, it has some parts that suck, but that’s life.

Ride review - Cairngorms Inner Loop in two days / using two batteries

Cairngorms inner loop ride report: Bosch CX motor, rode using eMTB mode the whole way, two 625w batteries, two days, overnight at Smugglers hostel in Tomintoul to charge. Day 1: 115km / 1500m all of first bty and 31% left of second. 5:30 ride time, 7:30 elapsed with eating and faff. Day 2...

Review Mucky Nutz - Mugguard Rear Fender

It’s not ‘intractable’ - the Mudhugger solves it immediately, as well as protecting your dropper and links. But as someone showed above in the thread, describing long mudguards as a ‘penis’, in MTB fashion and caring what others think about your bike’s looks overrules practicality, maintenance...

Review Mucky Nutz - Mugguard Rear Fender

Potentially, yes - practically, no. The issue is every MTB is different in dropout design, and suspension linkages make things very hard to design for as the front of the guard is likely to be moving differently in relation to the rear. The MugGuard is the closest-fitting to the tyre profile...

Review Mucky Nutz - Mugguard Rear Fender

Popping in to say that you need to be very careful with the MugGuard, as it has an inherent weakness over the Mudhugger - the two circles that enable it to pivot. The guard material gets very thin at that point, and today I snapped the guard off completely while wheeling it over a footbridge. I...

Review Mucky Nutz - Mugguard Rear Fender

Nice writeup - likewise Scotland (Dunkled) I'm reviewing one for Off-Road.cc right now and pretty much concur with your findings. I don't think it's quite as good as a Mudhugger long as I still get a few flecks on the back and bag, but then it's a lot less obvious. I'm constantly bemused by...

We have a huge problem with ebikes

A few thoughts from an ebike mechanic (Bosch, Shimano, Fazua) and journalist (Off-Road.cc/Cycling electric) 1. Ebikes are vehicles Ebikes are designed as vehicle systems and then tested/approved for sale. The motor and battery are coded to the bike, and if swapped without approval, effectively...

2020 Decathlon Stilus maintenance and repair

Just replaced all the pivot bearings (with Enduro MAX bearings). Everything feels real smooth - except when I do up the main pivot to 17Nm, it feels noticeably tight. Yes, both spacers are correctly in place. Anyone else found this?
