Where does Avinox go from here?

I think the manufacturer that makes a reliable and serviceable motor will likely win the day. Reputation is everything

Urgent Request to E-Bike Manufacturers: Race Mode

I mainly ride emtb these days and don’t bother with events unless they’re just for fun. Used to race XC, 12/24 marathons, enduros etc. If you want a level playing field where the rider is objectively the main component in winning: just race a mtb. It’s so fricking simple… and cheaper!

Urgent Request to E-Bike Manufacturers: Race Mode

Having been a club committee member for 20yrs, I’ve seen that emtbs have killed stamina events where they have been allowed to participate, even in their own class. And as many people leave mtb for emtb, there are fewer people who want to compete in the sport. XC is dead now but for handful of...

Ideal EMTB drive train (shifting, not motor)

Yerp, and how many times does someone in your group have problems with a flat derailleur battery or the shifter silver oxide or the hardwired battery connection or a firmware bug causing shifting issues etc.. I say 'you know they still make LinkGlide right?' I look after a datacentre during the...

Rail (750Wh) Trek Rail+ big gap in sizing...

Hopefully Trek see the error of their ways and make a ML Rail in the next refresh. The current sizing gap is huge; I won't buy another Trek if they keep doing this.

Broken bolts on Bosch CX motor

Don’t wait until you have a failure! A bit of preventative maintenance goes a long way. I pull the motor once a year to do the crank bearing seal service, and check the bracket screws then. Any that require tightening get removed and ret-torqued with fresh blue Loctite. Hardly ever a squeak...

"2nd dead bosch gen 4 motor not happy

Get a hardtail for wet weather riding. Mtbers have done this since forever. Don't know why ebikers are so slow on the uptake... esp with the cost of new motors etc.

    Drivetrain cleaning

Compressed air removes all the water. Try it, you'll be surprised at the puddle on the floor, even after wiping the chain 'dry'.

    Kia ora from New Zealand

Yep - elected not to ride the commuter this morning; bit of black ice about. Keeps the panel-beaters happy.

    Kia ora from New Zealand

Not a bad guess then - those hills have North Island all over them. I'm in Dunedin.

    Kia ora from New Zealand

Well matched indeed. Hawkes Bay? Manawatu?

    Drivetrain cleaning

Wipe it down then spin the cranks and dry it with compressed air. Another wipe then new lube.

Trek Fuel EXe 9.5 Frame-up rebuild: “The Bleaken”

Looks great. Curious about the motivation behind the Marzocchi suspension? Had a good experience with it before or just trying something new?

    Review Shimano CUES U6000

Converted wife's bike to U8000 10sp and mine to LG 11sp (11-50) from 12sp (10-51). Much better shifting all round. Wife is a harsh shifter and the U8000 shifting alleviates a lot of the crunching under load, and I've found those extra shift ramps make up-shifting much less drawn out. Other...

    Stolen! Orbea Wild 2023 -

The US is a stuck in a perpetual cycle of gun hell. Luckily they have thoughts and prayers to fall back on after each school/shopping mall/workplace/anywhere-at-all shooting.

    Rail chain line

Does the chain roll off the chainring from the bottom when wheeling the bike backwards? Annoys the crap out of me having to loosen the chain guide to refit the chain...

    5 broken ribs!

Brother dropped his moto in his own driveway avoiding a car coming around a corner to visit him - broke 6 ribs. Been on painkillers for sleeping for nearly a year (a couple haven't knitted). Sometimes surgery is the best option at the beginning rather than wait and see if it will heal by itself...
