Do 12 speeds still make sense for full powered EMTB's?

SRAM EX1 was almost as pointless - why are we obsessing over the same range cassettes as solely human powered XC bikes have. 🤦‍♂️😆 You can ride up heinously steep stuff in Trail / Auto (turned down Avinox) and Tour+ / EMTB on Bosch with a 36T cassette.

Do 12 speeds still make sense for full powered EMTB's?

I use an XTR shifter & XTR mech with a lower Saint cage. I think the Saint mech will do a 36T cassette in the ‘FR’ setting. I have a Linkglide Deore mech I was going to see if it would work at some point as well as they are super cheap. The other option is SRAM X01 10spd DH with the medium...

Do 12 speeds still make sense for full powered EMTB's?

Rides usually average about 500m of elevation to 10km of distance where I live, average rides are somewhere between 20-30km & somewhere between 1000 & 1500m of elevation. Average speed is between 17-23kph (depending on bike/effort/mood) 😆

Do 12 speeds still make sense for full powered EMTB's?

Nope, it’s completely not fit for purpose on a high powered ebike, and I’d even argue it’s fairly pointless on the current generation of mid powered bikes. My full powered bike I run 10spd (XTR/Saint) with an 11-36T cassette & a thick ebike chain. I still don’t need all the gears. The only...

    Orbea x Avinox Rumours

Moved to a flex stay, as it’s taken them 8 years to work out how to stop them from endlessly cracking seat stays & they are worried about going bankrupt with warranty claims 😆

Yeah doing ‘hot’ battery swaps wouldn’t be the quickest, not the worst either but I wouldn’t want to do it regularly. My 10spd setup so far is spot on - haven’t missed anything more than the 32T on the back, I even think I could run a slightly bigger chainring on this. I forgot just how good...

🚴 Why Don't You Ride to Work or for Everyday Commitments?

My office is about 50m down the garden, so it’s a bit pointless 😆 My physical offices are in London, Tokyo or California, so also not feasible, although I do still enjoy a C2W bike 😎

That’s the one thing I will miss. I won’t miss much else about it though. Keeping it on my Fuel+ & naturally aspirated bike though, much more suitable.

I’ve just got the bits for my 10spd setup. XTR M980 shifter XTR rear mech with Saint M820 short cage SRAM XG 1080 cassette. KMC E10 chain. Saved a huge amount of weight on X0 T-Type & have a stronger, more suitable & more reliable drivetrain.

    Avinox M2S: 1,500W, 150Nm, and a PR Offensive

Honestly. What’s a load of of guff. We have bikes in our garage with G5 Bosch motors, Avinox M1’s & and M2S & I can’t think of one occasion where I’ve hopped on the latest & had to ‘relearn & upskill’ riding up hills 😆 If all people are interested in is riding up hills of varying technicality...

Other Gen 2 Trek Fuel + (EXE) Official thread.

Still haven’t changed my view on this bike, the TQ system & its versatility. Happy to rate it as one of the top 5 bikes I’ve ridden (motor or not). Running it in stock EX mode as I have a FF long travel bike as well, although I’m curious to put a 65mm stroke shock on it as I plan to use it in...

    Forbidden DreadNought E

Hoping for a modern version of EX1 (really don’t need anything bigger than a 36T cassette on a modern EMTB groupset). I’d even given up the auto shift & go back to cables (really not that bothered by wireless either on an EMTB). If it’s too much range for the Saint mech, my second plan was one...

It was either this one or the base spec colour for me, but given I was using up some favour tokens, I didn’t have a lot of choice. I don’t mind the raw / black with the orange writing, but the orange forks, Kashima gold & then other colours just seems to clash horribly. I went the other way...

Yep will be keeping the Druid as my other half mostly rides that & I just steal it as & when I feel like it.

    Forbidden DreadNought E

I have both. They are very different beasts. The Druid is a very capable bike, and in the builds they did (Zebs / Vivid) it’s probably enough bike for nearly all situations, although it kind of didn’t make sense in the space it sat, with the bikes it had. Having now ridden the Dreadnought a...

Unno Mith released with DJI motor, 800Wh battery

I guess I put my money where my mouth is & have a Dreadnought. But equally I would have the new Whyte Karve. I’m not super driven to keep an Avinox bike, I’d happily pick a Norco Sight/Range over the Mith as well. In fact if you told me I could only have one bike, I’d keep my Fuel+ over it as...

    Forbidden DreadNought E

It’s almost a like for like build against the Mith I had & it’s heavier than that (giving some away on the motor & clearly the frame is more overbuilt). Second ride today cut short, as sadly they pinched the hardwire cable to the rear mech so I ended up having to single speed my way round. Even...

Unno Mith released with DJI motor, 800Wh battery

I’m not an owner of a Mith but I have spent a lot of time riding one over a couple of periods in the last 7/8 months. It is undoubtedly a fast bike (in certain situations) but it is not without its idiosyncrasies. It’s an absolute pain in the ass to set up & get a ‘balanced’ feel. The...

    Forbidden DreadNought E

So my frame arrived yesterday & I spent the evening building it up. Ended up at 22.8kg as it is. Went for a quick shakedown ride today & it was as I remembered the blacked out proto - essentially a Druid Core on all of the steroids. I’m a fan of how Fobiddens ride, so it all came fairly...

    Forbidden DreadNought E

That’s the beauty of the bike market now, it’s not just cookie cutter designs with a different logo on the front of the head tube. If you want to prioritise something that can be more lively you can pick something a bit more traditional / generic & size it accordingly & those who have tried...
